A typical day in the field with this company was engaging with the client's expectations to learn of the upcoming work scope and to ensure I was on the same page with other contractors as to work being performed. During safety meetings, collaboration between all workers would take place and details were addressed to ensure client expectations among all contractors. Following the safety meeting, contractors would make their way down to the work site and set their equipment up for the job being performed while in the meantime, I ensured that I was prepared with the proper paperwork and equipment in order to perform my role as the confined space entry attendant / safety watch. Once contractors were ready to perform the work, I recorded workers who enter (and exit) confined space working areas and looked out for their safety through visual / verbal / radio communication. During the time work was taking place, I would perform continuous area monitoring of the gas levels taking place inside the work space and documenting in the readings in 15-minute intervals. Upon completion of the work and after cleaning up my work area, my next duty was to return the work permit back to the permit authority once crews have cleaned their areas and left work for the day / upon job completion. 

During my time in this role, I learned that safety in the oil and gas industry is of the utmost importance when watching over workers in potentially hazardous conditions. Over the years of performing this role, I know that work conditions can change on a moment's notice and that it is critical to ensure constant communication with workers inside these hazardous spaces at all times. 

Management for my time spent at this company was above average; I was always made aware of where I would be working the following day (if I was not on a long-term project already), and they were very accommodating with offering time off when it was due. They were also very flexible with working around my school schedule where I could then return during the summer months from end of April until the start of September for the following school year. 

I found the workplace culture to be very accepting, diverse, and was just an all-around healthy atmosphere to be able to work in, both inside the office / shop, as well as employment in the field. 

The hardest part of the job for me was when long-term projects would come to an end where friendships were made and crews began learning a synergy work process that maintained safety above all else, while being efficient and completing jobs in a timely manner. 

The most enjoyable part of the job for me was meeting new people and working outdoors.

Typical day:
Tool box meeting followed by stretches.  Head to the permit shack or pre-job meeting.  Gather equipment for the job/s.  Lots of clambering around scaffolding, up and down tower ladders, in and out of vessels.
What I learned:
The learning never stops.  I'll even ask the contractors about their job and tools, so that I can have a greater safety awareness.
Management:
Knowledgeable and encouraging.  Great bosses.
Co-workers:
Everyone pitches in - good team-work.  A friendly bunch.
Hardest part of the job:
Standing for hours in the cold or sitting waiting for jobs in the shack.
Most enjoyable part of the job:
Meeting new people, learning about operations, travelling to new locations.

repetitive work. with a 6 on 1 off rotation. i learned a lot from this position in terms of safety and gas handling. our management is very supportive. workplace is somewhat stressful specially when it is busy and cold however my crew is awesome as i had a funny crew  and guys who love to have fun which makes work easier. hardest part of the job is climbing ladders and the weather.

The job had loads of overtime but the major downside is the job is only temporary. Only a select few are offered full time employment. another downside is work location It is not local and about 30% of the time the camps you go to are so run down and disgusting that they should be condemned.

work will be good as i have three little boys. am punctual, respectful, easy to get along with, work well with other. i think for myself the hardest part of the job would be waking up the most enjoyably part of the job for me would be the days end as it is for everybody. when i work i like to be very neat maintain work equipment

management in this company is really good, professional and  people orientated, the job is fun and very important.
training is very effective but is not all you need, in general is a very good company to work.

Worst company ever, low pay, no benefits, and they are people who work there, still thinking that somehow they are going to be a permanent employee. when the only people who get hired permanent, are family or friends.

easy going staff members i learned alot from the management the hardest part of the job was being out in the cold but i slowly got used to it the most enjoyable part was the peace of mind in the wilderness of fort Saskatchewan

The friendly environment and good co-workers I have had makes me happy and gave me inspiration to learn more and helped me to develop my knowledge on oil and gas industry.
