The job is very mentally draining. Working in a tourist location means it is always busy, and having hours cut without management taking into account the amount of traffic we receive makes it very physically draining as well. Sometimes the work is overdemanding, and the environment is becoming more and more toxic as time goes on. Making more than minimum wage doesn't particularly mean much when you're not getting enough hours to receive any benefit from that. Management doesn't hold good enough communication skills to be able to direct people properly, and there is no communication in the leadership team. If you're part time, which you will be unless you get a full time supervisor role, or a management position, you don't get health benefits. The only benefit you get as a part timer is a certain amount that you are allowed to use to get 50% off of lego products in store and online. You get 20 hours of PTO a year, and the points system for if you're sick is harsh. No warnings are given, you just get talked to once it happens. 

A typical day at the LEGO store starts with checking the night before paperwork ( sales report, labor control, Safe audit, NPS guest surveys). When any of our team members arrive and have clocked in we check them in and let them know what our Sales, Guest service and Daily goals are and what we can do to obtain them.  Ive learned that Guest service is number one in any and every category, that having a honest and transparent way of managing and coaching is the best way to do both. The hardest part of our job is our diverse clientele  we have to meet needs from people all over the world and making sure that each one is treated the same every time, language can be a huge barrier but we make it work everyday. The most enjoyable part of our job is the kids, seeing their eyes light up everyday with their pride of creation and joy of building makes all of our interactions worth while.

Being in a leadership position, I was able to create the culture in my store - this is definitely the reason why most of my time at work was amazing. The team I worked with was comprised of individuals with great work ethics, who really cared. Unfortunately, in my last year, the leader I had left to pursue a different career, and the leader that replaced him was nothing short of toxic. This lead to a disintegration of the store manager relationships, gossip, and just a negative work environment for me when you considered anything outside of my store. Luckily, this really only impacted me in my store, and my team was shielded from the culture outside of our store.

Even though I haven't been working long I'm already loving it! The on-boarding process was easy to follow and when I had a questions I got a useful reply very soon after asking.

As for the training/work it's also stellar. Everyone is so friendly and helped me quickly learn the ropes. The culture overall is exceptional and the pay + employee discount is very reasonable and higher than most other retail jobs.

Never been great at conclusions but I'll summarize by saying this is definitely one of, if not the best place to work. 😃

My typical day would be greeting customers and completing their orders at the till. I learned how to convey myself more as a person since customer service is number 1 at Lego, i was a shy person before i started working at Lego but i am now more open to talking to people and creating small talk. My co-workers were nice i didn't have many problems with them. The hardest part of the job was probably closing shifts by myself  where i would of had to stock the store myself. The most enjoyable part of the job was having customers remember me because of the good experience i had given them.

LEGO is truly an outstanding company starting from the higher ups in the company, trickling down to store associates. I have worked at LEGO for over 5 years and there is definitely a reason for that. You are treated incredibly well and do not feel like just a number like you would in most retail jobs. If you already love LEGO in your personal life, definitely recommend working here as the perks would definitely be even more worth it for you. Overall, amazing team, fun atmosphere and great retail job!

Usually spend the day greeting and assisting customers that walk into the store and engage with children who are playing in the store.

The best job hands down. I have been with the company for 4+ years. The pay is minimum wage, however we are overly compensated with other benefits, bonuses, gifts and giveaways. The staff is like family and we are treated fairly and equally within the business. Lots of room to learn and develop new skills.

I had an excellent team, most of my leaders were the best at their job. Customers were mostly friendly and engaging, talked a lot about star wars, marvel, and cars. Worked part time for over a year with a very flexible schedule, which allowed me to accomodate my college classes and assignments. It was a very balanced environment between people-focus and business-focus.
