Job Overview
This position plays an important role in the financial management of the company, ensuring adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Working collaboratively within the accounting team, this role will oversee the day to day financial operations including AR, AP, general ledger, & fixed assets, preparing and analysing financial statements and management reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations. This role will also act as Project Controller on an as needed basis and provide financial guidance and support to other departments including our project and asset management teams.
Duties
- Leas the full cycle accounting function including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Subledgers, Fixed Assets
- Lead the month end close process, including banks reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and preparing financial statemetns and monthly and annual working papers
- Ensure adherance e to accounting standards, regulatory reporting & requirements, internal processes, and best practices
- Ensuring accurate records are maintained for fixed assets, operating equipment, inventories, construction projects, and related costs
- Provide financial analysis and ad hoc reporting to support business decisions
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiencies, and internal controls
- Provide analysis of departmental data and establish KPI’s that are tracked monthly to monitor key areas or identify where efficiencies or other improvements may be found.
- Identify and recommend controls and process improvements to strengthen compliance
- Assist with internal or external audits, including regulatory audits as needed
- Process day to day banking transactions
- Project Accounting – act as Project Controller for active projects, including review of budgets and forecast updates, change orders and cost allocations, ensure project revenue is recognized in accordance with applicable accounting standards
Qualifications / Work Experience:
- Strong proficiency in accounting software; knowledge of AIMS software an asset
- Demonstrated expertise in full cycle accounting
- Must be familiar with IFRS
- Experience in construction / project accounting and fixed assets required
- Experience working within a fast-paced environment.
- Must enjoy working as part of a team and have a collaborative mindset
- Knowledge of payroll management systems and procedures is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills required.
- Prior Supervisory or Management experience preferred
- Post Secondary Certificate / Diploma / Degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA designation is an asset
