Vancouver Community College is hiring an Instructor for our Clean Energy Technology Program. We are searching for individuals who have years of experience as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic or HVAC Technician. Duties & Responsibilities
- Teaches students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, shop sessions, seminars, case studies, field assignments and independent or group projects.
- Develops curriculum and prepares teaching materials and outlines for courses including audio visual and web-related materials where appropriate.
- Prepares, administers and marks papers, tests, exams and other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress. Provides detailed feedback on student performance.
- Assists and provides support to students and potential students by advising on program curricula and career decisions.
- Provides individualized or group tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it.
- Maintains effective stewardship of classroom facilities, equipment, materials, software and tools.
- Arranges for and supervises independent or group projects, field placements, laboratory work or hands-on training.
- Adheres to VCC policies and procedures including being available to students and maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Participates in departmental and college meetings and events. Consults with other College departments and may serve on committees concerning matters such as budgets, curriculum revision, and course and certificate or diploma requirements.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic – Certificate of Qualification with Red Seal Endorsement.
- Current Certificate of Competency/Qualification in Gasfitter – Class B (preferred).
- Electrical FSR Class RE (preferred).
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the industry as a journeyperson.
- Completion of the Provincial Instructor’s Diploma (PID) (preferred).
- Successful post-secondary teaching experience (preferred).
- Demonstrated instructional ability.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to plan, prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
