About the Role:
As an Engineering Manager in the Travel XCover Squad, you will own the technical vision and execution for our Travel integrations with new and existing partners through embedded, XCover Elements, or Standalone service. Your primary objective will be to lead a dedicated team supporting the Travel domain’s goal to be the indispensable global partner for travel businesses by delivering intelligent and adaptive coverage solutions.
To drive success in this role, you will have proven experience in people management, strong technical leadership in a modern microservices environment, and a background in architecting highly reliable systems. As the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for mentoring and growing a team of talented engineers, guiding our technical strategy and executing our ambitious product roadmap. A key part of the role is to foster a culture of innovation, ownership and operational excellence.
We're building AI-first. You'll champion a culture where agentic tools like Claude Code and Gemini are core parts of the engineering workflow - not novelties, but multipliers that let the team ship faster without sacrificing quality. You'll guide your team in adopting AI-augmented development practices, from code generation to testing to documentation, and help scale what "agentic software engineering" looks like at Cover Genius across a mature, established squad.
Regular collaboration with internal product, engineering and partner-facing teams will be key in ensuring we achieve our goals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and mentor engineering teams to achieve the Travel product objectives and key results for 2026.
Translate product vision and OKRs into actionable engineering initiatives and technical roadmaps.
Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
Foster a culture of responsible AI adoption; guide the team to integrate AI tools into their workflows while ensuring quality and security standards are met.
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions that deliver exceptional customer and partner experiences.
Drive technical excellence through code reviews, design discussions, and architectural decisions that balance speed with long-term maintainability.
Manage engineering resources effectively to meet project timelines and deliver high-quality solutions.
What you will bring:
Bachelor/Masters degree in Computer Science or Engineering with at least 5 years of software engineering experience and at least 2 years in leading and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
Experience leading agile scrum teams of 5-7 engineers with diverse experience levels.
Capability to lead, develop, grow and mentor engineers.
Experience fostering AI-first development practices - you've guided teams to adopt agentic tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini, or similar) as core workflow accelerators.
Working understanding of LLMs beyond code generation: prompt engineering, context management, and knowing when AI tools add value vs. when traditional approaches are better.
Strong technical foundation in modern backend technologies (Node.js/TypeScript, Python, or similar); experience with APIs and third-party integrations.
Understanding of microservices architectures, cloud infrastructure (AWS), and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, specifically Terraform.
Demonstrated experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and effective data modeling.
Proficiency with observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, Datadog) for monitoring, logging, and alerting.
What you will have:

Brings together work from multiple contributors into cohesive, achievable plans.
Technical Excellence:
Empowers engineers to achieve a high bar of engineering excellence; creates space for testing, automation, observability, and documentation.
Drives quality through code reviews and design discussions; holds the team's work to high standards.
Ensures the team owns operations of their systems - on-call rotas, incident response, and continuous improvement.
AI-First Mindset:
Fosters a culture of responsible AI adoption; encourages experimentation while ensuring quality and security.
Leads the team to evaluate and integrate AI tools that improve productivity, quality, and velocity.
Understands the ethical and security implications of using AI tools with company data and code.
Thinks in terms of leverage - automates the repetitive, focuses human attention on judgment calls.
Helps the team adopt AI workflows; shares what works and raises the floor for everyone.
