Job Summary:
The Food and Beverage Clerk is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while preparing and serving food and beverages to patrons during events at the Sudbury Arena. This event-based position supports all aspects of concession operations, including food preparation, point-of-sale transactions, inventory, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. Food and Beverage Clerks work in a fast-paced setting to help ensure a positive guest experience before, during, and after events.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary role of this position serves food and beverages to all patrons at any event at the Sudbury Arena.
- Prepare food and beverage service areas prior to events, including food preparation and workstation setup.
- Provide prompt, friendly, and efficient customer service while serving food and beverages to patrons.
- Operate a point-of-sale (POS) system and accurately process electronic card payments.
- Conduct opening and closing inventory counts for concession locations.
- Set up and tear down concession kiosks before and after events.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by cleaning workstations, equipment, utensils, service ware, floors, and facilities, and disposing of waste appropriately.
- Where assigned, serve alcoholic beverages in accordance with Smart Serve certification requirements and all applicable legislation.
- Where assigned, monitor for underage or intoxicated patrons and promptly notify management of any concerns.
- Provide guidance and training to other employees performing related work, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support concession and event operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Smart Serve Certification is required for employees assigned to locations where alcohol is served.
- Food Handler Certification is required.
- Previous experience in food service, concessions, hospitality, or customer service is considered an asset.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patrons and team members.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to remain calm and provide excellent service while working under pressure.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to maintain a high standard of professionalism and integrity.
- Flexible availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the event schedule.
- Willingness to learn and follow all food safety, health and safety, and organizational policies and procedures.
Working Conditions
- This is a casual, event-based position. Hours of work are scheduled based on operational requirements and the event calendar. Hours and shifts are not guaranteed.
- Work is performed in concession stands, kiosks, and other food service areas within the arena during sporting events, concerts, and other special events.
- Requires prolonged standing and walking for the duration of scheduled shifts.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of supplies and equipment up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive hand movements while preparing and serving food and beverages.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, including hot food preparation equipment and refrigerated or freezer storage areas.
- Exposure to cleaning products and chemicals used in accordance with workplace safety procedures.
- Required to wear the prescribed uniform and any required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must comply with all food safety, occupational health and safety, and responsible service policies and procedures.
Job Status: Casual Event Based (Part-Time)

Compensation: Student Minimum Wage to Minimum Wage (based on age and eligibility under Ontario employment standards)
