The Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC) collaborates across Primary Care Alberta (PCA) and with external partners to advance health equity for Indigenous peoples and communities. The Indigenous Wellness Core is seeking a Coordinator to play a key role in supporting Indigenous Communities and Organizations seeking Honouring Life Grant funding. The Honouring Life (HL) Grant Program addresses risk factors by building community capacity to support Indigenous youth mental health and wellbeing. The HL Grant Program is a strengths-based Indigenous youth life promotion (suicide prevention) program, providing grant funding to Indigenous communities to develop, implement, and evaluate community-led, culturally based life promotion programming to Indigenous youth, focusing on building resiliency and increasing protective factors to support Indigenous youth mental wellness. The Honouring Life Coordinator (HLC) will act as a first point of contact for Honouring Life Grantees and Indigenous communities and organizations applying for HL funding. Within a multi-disciplinary team, the HLC works collaboratively and engages extensively with key contacts in FNMI communities/organizations, to successfully support them in the development of an HL proposal, ensuring the project proposal meets the application and program guidelines. The HLC supports the Business Operations Manager with knowledge management, expert consultative abilities, and strategic communication. The HLC actions requests, initiating and providing recommendations, as appropriate, and is responsible for the synthesis of complex information, issues, and opinions into common directives and strategies.
The Honouring Life Coordinator (HLC) will serve as a key contact for applicants who are applying or interested in applying for Honouring Life (HL) funding. The HLC provide hands on assistance to applicants during the application development and remains the key contact during the life of the contract, supporting grantees for the term of their funding contracts. The HLC will work to ensure applications meet the funding, evaluation and reporting requirements in the grant agreement, meeting financial and contractual requirements. The HLC will interpret applicant needs, assess requirements, and identify areas the Honouring Life Grant Program can support interested communities while providing guidance to demonstrate respect for Indigenous traditional values, beliefs and protocols. Collaborating with research associates, the HLC will track HL performance measures monthly to demonstrate outcomes, and draft/edit written and oral presentations, summaries & reports. The HLC will serve as the project point person, providing support during all project phases and project management processes. The HLC will support communities to implement project plans, ensuring project objectives meet overall Honouring Life Grant goals and objectives. The Honouring Life Coordinator represents & promotes HL at various internal/external meetings and other community gatherings and will collaborate with team and project leads to build, manage and sustain key internal/external stakeholder relationships. The HLC collaborates with the Business Operations Manager to identify risks and issues, and to problem solve, and provides written and verbal status updates to Project Teams. Required Qualifications:
The Honouring Life Coordinator will hold a minimum of Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum three years experience working with urban and rural Indigenous communities. Knowledge and sensitivity around the culture and health issues of Indigenous people as well as successful experience working in multi-cultural environments. A well-developed understanding of community-based work in an Indigenous community setting. Self-directed with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, with an ability to handle multiple tasks. Strong written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to foster partnerships and relationships with Indigenous communities and community organizations. Ability to manage and prioritize work and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and team skills. A demonstrated clear commitment to professional and personal development. Ability to work with high level external and internal key stakeholders. Conflict management expertise focusing on group dynamics and diverse priorities. Aptitude for building and sustaining complex relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
