We're Hiring: Senior Cook for an Established Event Venue
Are you an experienced cook ready to take on more responsibility in a small, creative kitchen? Our established event venue, known for hosting weddings, corporate functions, live music, wine tastings, burlesque shows, and more, is seeking a Senior Cook to bring skill and consistency to our tight-knit culinary team.
About the Role
Ours is a non-traditional, gas-free kitchen built around induction, sous vide, baking, and broiling, a great fit for cooks who enjoy technique-driven, creative cooking outside a typical line setup. As a Senior Cook, you'll work closely with a small team of 2–3 in the kitchen, taking ownership of dishes and prep for a wide range of events, including brunch service. This is a strong opportunity for someone with solid experience who wants more ownership without stepping into full kitchen management.
Responsibilities
- Food Prep & Cooking: Prepare and cook dishes using induction, sous vide, oven, and broiler techniques to recipe and presentation standards.
- Brunch Service: Execute brunch-specific menu items with speed and consistency.
- Vendor & Ordering: Communicate with suppliers and help manage ordering to keep the kitchen stocked and on budget.
- Menu Input: Provide feedback and ideas during menu planning for upcoming events.
- Mentorship: Guide and support other kitchen team members during service.
- Organization: Maintain cleanliness, efficiency, and food safety standards throughout the kitchen.
- Collaboration: Work closely with kitchen leadership and the events team to execute menus smoothly, given the kitchen's small, hands-on team.
- Quality Control: Ensure consistency and attention to detail across all dishes leaving the kitchen.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a Line Cook, Prep Cook, or similar kitchen role.
- Experience with brunch service.
- Comfortable working with vendors and handling ordering.
- Comfort working with induction, sous vide, and other non-gas cooking methods (or eagerness to learn).
- Strong knife skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Working knowledge of food safety and kitchen organization.
- Some experience mentoring or guiding junior kitchen staff a plus.
- Flexibility to adapt to diverse events and themes.
- Comfort working in a small (2–3 person) kitchen team where everyone pitches in across tasks.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
What We Offer
- Competitive hourly pay, based on experience.
- Opportunity to grow toward kitchen leadership over time.
- A vibrant, supportive work environment.
- The chance to be part of memorable events and celebrations.
