Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist participates in the day-to-day activities related to the management of health, safety, and environmental programs.
The Health, Safety and Environment Specialist:
- Does not manage workers’ compensation or claims files.
- Acts as a trusted advisor to managers and employees by guiding them in the implementation of best practices related to occupational health and safety and environmental management.
- Supports operations by conducting Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and researching HSE best practices.
- Performs audits to ensure compliance with company policies, processes, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Conducts workplace risk assessments (with the assistance of subject matter experts when required), including evaluations of air quality, thermal stress, lighting, noise levels, hazardous machinery, and other workplace hazards.
- Assists managers during accident investigations to identify root causes and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Provides recommendations and supports managers in implementing corrective and preventive measures.
- Actively participates in the Local Health and Safety Committee (LHSC).
- Leads the monthly HSE meeting and manages the eco-responsibility action plan.
- Maintains and communicates HSE performance indicators and metrics.
- Supports management in analyzing compliance requirements related to the Controlled Goods Program and Industrial Security Program.
- Relevant post-secondary education in a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of HSE experience, primarily within aircraft maintenance or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and continuously evolving environment.
- Strong communication skills, with bilingual proficiency in French and English, both written and spoken, to support an international workforce.
- Demonstrated initiative and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
