Located in the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut, the Municipality of Morin-Heights has nearly 4,900 citizens within a territory of almost 60 km² and is undergoing active development.
The Municipality is made up of approximately thirty dynamic, passionate and dedicated employees who serve its citizens. The Public Works and Infrastructure Department provides technical support for the completion of various projects and for the implementation of operations related to the Department.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Roads and Mechanical Foreman, the incumbent primarily drives vehicles and heavy machinery and must perform basic maintenance on them. Without limitation, the incumbent is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of municipal equipment and buildings. The incumbent maintains the Municipality’s road and waterworks networks.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· VEHICLE OPERATION
§ Drive and operate heavy machinery such as a backhoe, grader, etc.;
§ Drive trucks to transport sand, gravel or other materials required for roadwork, or snow during winter road clearing or sanding operations;
§ Carry out daily inspections of all vehicles, mechanical equipment or machinery before use and perform basic preventive maintenance. Prepare or complete the relevant reports;
§ Complete daily reports on the use of vehicles or mechanical equipment, as well as other relevant reports;
· MAINTENANCE OF MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS
§ Regularly clean the municipal garage;
§ Maintain Municipality grounds: park maintenance and keep areas clean.
§ May be called upon to perform all duties of the Labourer-Driver position.
MAINTENANCE OF STREETS, ROADS, WATERWORKS AND WATERCOURSES
· Report any required improvements to road conditions;
· Repair and pave roads;
· Inspect and repair road shoulders;
· Clean and dig ditches;
· Install and repair culverts and thaw them in winter, as needed;
· Inspect, locate and install road signage;
· Report any desirable signage improvements;
· Repair damaged signage;
· Remove garbage, various objects and dead animals to ensure environmental hygiene;
· Act as a flagperson during roadwork;
· Clear brush along roads and around signage;
· Install, inspect, maintain and repair waterworks infrastructure;
· Dismantle beaver dams, as needed;
· Occasionally assist the mechanic;
· Clean equipment when required;
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
§ Secondary V diploma;
§ Basic knowledge of construction trades;
§ Valid Class 3 driver’s licence;
§ Functional bilingualism;
§ Minimum of 2 years of experience; versatility required;
§ Knowledge of heavy equipment;
WORKING CONDITIONS
§ Working conditions, social benefits and compensation are those provided for in the collective agreement in effect;
§ Temporary 6-month position with possibility of extension;
