Salary Range:
$72,702.00 - $85,531.77
Reporting to the Manager, Tourism Vernon, this position is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the Tourism Strategic Business Plan. This includes developing and managing Tourism marketing campaigns and programs as well as researching and assessing current market trends and tourism industry performance.
Duties Include:
- Creates, coordinates, implements, and tracks marketing campaigns and projects to generate overnight stays and visitation to Vernon.
- Maintains and generates content for Tourism Vernon website, social channels, e-newsletter, and marketing campaigns.
- Collaborates with Coordinator, Visitor Services to implement the Tourism Marketing Co-op Program.
- Coordinates design, production, and distribution of Tourism marketing collateral.
- Responsible for coordinating and attending community events and tradeshows on behalf of Tourism Vernon for consumer, travel trade, and media events.
- Under the direction of the Manager, Tourism, this role engages with stakeholders to develop and implement strategic advertising programs that leverage the Tourism Vernon brand.
- Responds to image/video requests from the media, staff, stakeholders, and local organizations to support the consistent visual representation of the community.
- Develops and maintains Tourism Vernon’s digital asset library in accordance with the Canadian Copyright Act.
- Creates, edits, and distributes multimedia content and graphic design according to Tourism Vernon’s brand standards.
- Manages photo and video shoots using external contractors and liaising with tourism partners.
- Presents customized pitches that and showcase Vernon products and experiences to attract key media and journalists to the Vernon area.
- Coordinates and hosts media trips which showcase Vernon products and experiences.
- Shares media and distributes media stories to industry and stakeholders.
- Tracks and reports performance metrics for marketing initiatives and campaigns.
- Assists in the development and implementation of a travel trade outreach program.
- Collects and monitors statistical data for research purposes and to ensure understanding of tourism industry market trends; locally, provincially, and nationally.
- Monitors and collaborates with Destination BC and Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) to remain abreast of current industry trends.
- Reviews marketing analytics and adjusts campaigns and content accordingly.
- Represents Tourism Vernon at external functions.
- Liaises with local, regional, provincial and national colleagues to share information and resources with a goal to continuously improve delivery of Tourism services.
- Facilitates industry engagement sessions for the purposes of sharing information, educating on trends and topics, and exploring industry opportunities for growth and expansion.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the City in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.
Required Education and Experience:
- Diploma in tourism, business, communications, or related education.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in tourism marketing that includes a strong blend of traditional and digital campaigns and projects.
- Valid BC Driver’s License.
- A combination of recent and relevant education and experience may be considered.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong program development and project management skills.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Proven public relations or marketing skills utilizing digital platforms.
- Strong community/client focus and excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with a variety of stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Solid understanding of the priorities of the tourism industry and also an appreciation of working within a local government environment.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment with many demands.
- Self-disciplined, dependable, and follows through to implementation.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite, content management software, and social media platforms.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs such a Premier Pro, InDesign, and Photoshop.
- The incumbent will be required to work outside of normal working hours.
