Position Summary
The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and professional environment for patrons, clients, staff, and visitors. This role supports site operations by enforcing property standards, monitoring access control and CCTV systems, responding to incidents and emergencies, and delivering professional customer service in a busy and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with property standards, rules, and regulations in a reasonable and professional manner.
- Enforce access control procedures and manage entry points as required.
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems and report suspicious activity or incidents.
- Conduct periodic patrols of the property by foot as assigned.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide First Aid, CPR, or AED support until medical professionals arrive.
- De-escalate emergency or crisis situations using tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment.
- Assist emergency services and law enforcement personnel when required.
- Address trespassers and unauthorized persons on the property in a fair, safe, and professional manner.
- Investigate incidents and occurrences and prepare detailed incident reports.
- Maintain a detailed memo book and accurate documentation of all relevant matters.
- Maintain the peace, safety, and security of all patrons, clients, staff, and visitors on the property.
- Support access control, line management, customer service, and daily operations as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Alberta Security Licence.
- Valid OFA Level 1 certificate.
- Current First Aid certification.
- CTSS Level 2 certification.
- Minimum 1 year of prior security experience.
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol by foot for extended periods, including 8- to 12-hour shifts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong command and fluency in English, both written and verbal.
- High degree of professionalism and sound judgment under pressure.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment both indoors and outdoors as required.
- Comfortable working in busy, highly populated areas.
- Ability to attend and respond to stressful emergency situations.
- Strong attention to detail and observational awareness.
- Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to work productively in a team environment.
- Ability to retain relevant information provided by management and designated staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Loss Prevention or Retail Security is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to take a proactive approach to onsite situations.
- Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback appropriately.
