Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance, Procurement and Facilities, the Director, Fleet Operations provides strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS) fleet program. The role is accountable for ensuring a safe, reliable, and operationally ready fleet that supports 24/7 policing operations across the province.

The Director leads fleet strategy, lifecycle planning, fleet acquisition, maintenance, deployment, replacement, vendor management, and operational readiness. The position is responsible for establishing the governance, policies, and service delivery model required to transition from Government of Alberta shared services to an independent Crown corporation fleet operation. The Director also provides oversight of fleet-related asset management and collaborates with procurement teams to support vehicle, equipment, and service acquisitions.

The Director oversees the Manager, Fleet and Asset Management and works closely with operational leaders, external service providers, manufacturers, and vendors to ensure fleet resources effectively support frontline policing requirements.

Key Responsibilities include:

Lead and oversee the ASPS fleet program to ensure vehicles are safe, reliable, and operationally ready.
Develop fleet strategies, policies, and plans that support current and future policing needs.
Lead the transition from Government of Alberta fleet services to an independent Crown corporation fleet model.
Oversee the full vehicle lifecycle, including acquisition, deployment, maintenance, replacement, and disposal.
Manage fleet budgets, capital plans, and long-term investment strategies to maximize value and performance.
Build and manage relationships with vendors, manufacturers, and service providers to ensure effective service delivery.
Monitor fleet performance and implement improvements to increase efficiency, reliability, and operational readiness.
Provide oversight of fleet-related asset management and procurement activities to ensure compliance and accountability.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Public Administration, Facilities Management, Fleet Management or other closely related fields, plus Seven (7) years of leadership experience in complex, multi-stakeholder environments, including oversight of enterprise functions such as procurement, facilities, fleet, asset management or comparable operational portfolios.

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

one year of education for one year of experience.
one year of experience for one year of education.

Requirements:

Senior leadership experience managing fleet operations, transportation services, or related operational support functions in a complex organization.
Experience developing fleet strategies, managing budgets, and overseeing vendor or contract performance.
Proven success leading operational change, program modernization, or the establishment of new service models.

Assets:

Experience supporting law enforcement, public safety, emergency services, or other operationally intensive environments.
Experience working in a large public-sector, Crown corporation, municipal, or unionized organization.
Experience leading organizations or programs through significant change, growth, or transition.

Notes

Please note there is one (1) permanent, full-time, in-person position available.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:15am to 4:30pm, 36.25hours per week
