Position: Accountant
Expert Geophysics Limited is growing quickly, and our finance function needs to grow with it. We are looking for an experienced accountant who is happy working in a high-volume, fast-moving environment and who wants to be genuinely hands-on with the numbers every day.
This role reports directly to the company President. You will have an Accounting Coordinator reporting to you.
Job Type: This is a full-time role consisting of 40 hours per week. There is an existing vacancy for this position.
Employment Term: This is a permanent position.
Work Location: On-site at Newmarket, Ontario office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including processing vendor invoices, verifying approvals, coding expenses, scheduling payments, and resolving vendor inquiries
- Oversee the accounts receivable process, including preparing and issuing customer invoices, monitoring aging reports, following up on outstanding balances, and applying payments
- Perform regular reconciliation of bank accounts and credit card statements, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in QuickBooks Online, ensuring data integrity across all modules
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account analysis
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for external accountants and auditors
- Process expense reports and ensure compliance with company policies
- Assist with HST/GST filings and other regulatory remittances as required
- Support payroll processing and related reconciliations as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls
- Provide general administrative support to the finance department
Qualifications
· Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping or full-cycle accounting experience, preferably in a medium-sized business.
· Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
· Expert level proficiency with QuickBooks Online supported by the QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification.
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
· Familiarity with Ontario employment-related payroll practices is an asset.
· Post-secondary education in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or business administration is preferred.
· An accounting or CPB (Certified Professional Bookkeeper) designation is an asset.
Compensation
This position offers a salary range of $67,000 to $90,000 annually. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's skills, education and relevant experience as they relate to the role.
