Rise Women’s Legal Centre (Rise) is a community legal centre providing accessible family law services that are responsive to the unique needs of self-identifying women and gender diverse people in British Columbia. In addition to serving clients, we are a knowledge based and knowledge generating organization and work collaboratively with organizations around the province.
Rise’s work is guided by three focus areas – learning, helping and systems change, through which the organization provides direct support to clients, learning opportunities for law students, social work students, family law advocates, support workers, and lawyers, and works on systemic change through research and education.
Job Title: Development Officer, Mid-Level and Major Gifts
Terms: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

About the Position
Working closely with and reporting to the Fund Development Manager, the Development Officer, Mid-Level & Major Gifts is responsible for managing a blended portfolio of current and prospective donors whose engagement with Rise reflects existing and emerging major gift potential. Sitting within the Fund Development and Communications team, this role plays a critical function by identifying, qualifying, advancing, and stewarding donors who may give personally, through community engagement, or via family or corporate foundations. Through relationship-based fundraising, the Development Officer, Major Gifts cultivates, solicits and stewards donors across multiple giving pathways, applying moves management principles to support donor growth, multi-year commitments and long-term philanthropic investment.
This role is well suited to a fundraiser who thrives at the intersection of engagement and strategy, enjoys working with donors at all stages of their philanthropic journey, and is motivated by building strong foundations for future major and legacy giving relationships. The successful candidate will bring strong interpersonal skills, sound fundraising judgement, skill in identifying and converting new prospects, and a commitment to inclusive fundraising practices, while working collaboratively with the Fund Development Manager and Fund Development and Communications Coordinator.
Responsibilities
- Manages a portfolio of current and prospective donors, and emerging philanthropists, working with the Fund Development Manager to set strategies and tactics to achieve an annual revenue target ranging from $545,000 - $742,500
- Develops and executes individualized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for donors giving personally, and via family or corporate foundations with gifts ranging on average at the $10,000 to $100,000 level.
- Applies a disciplined moves management approach to support donor growth, multi-year commitments and increased levels of giving over time.
- Acts as a key point of contact for assigned community and emerging major gift donor audiences, providing guidance, resources and stewardship support.
- Works collaboratively with the Fund Development Manager and Fund Development and Communications Coordinator to support donors who engage through various giving pathways. Giving vehicles may include gifts of securities, Donor Advised Funds, and other forms of donations used by individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Works collaboratively on the creation of tailored proposals, impact reports and stewardship communications aligned with donor interests and Rise priorities.
- Collaborates with the Fund Development and Communications Coordinator on mid and major giving strategies.
- Supports the planning and delivery of engagement opportunities and events.
- Tracks activity, engagement and results using the donor CRM, budgetary tracking, and prospect management tools.
- Monitors progress against goals, identifies challenges and manages up as required.
- Ensures accurate documentation, reporting and adherence to fundraising best practices.
May coordinate volunteers assisting with peer-to-peer fundraising and fund development events
- Any other duties as agreed from time to time.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week (inclusive of 2.5 hours of unpaid breaks)
- In-person work environment; hybrid work arrangements may be available.

Qualifications
Education:
- Post-secondary education, in relevant subject such as communications, marketing, or fundraising considered an asset.
Professional Certifications:
- Involvement with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or working toward CFRE designation is an asset.
Experience:
- 3-5 years or more experience of progressive non-profit fundraising experience including experience working with an individual giving, major gifts or planned giving portfolio. This experience should include managing a major gifts portfolio, meeting revenue goals for the assigned portfolio, and securing higher levels of revenue and engagement from existing and new donors where possible.
- Experience working with volunteers (asset)
