Game Operations Intern - 8 Month Internship:
Position Summary
The Game Operations Intern plays an active role in planning, executing, and evaluating all game-day operations and event logistics. This hands-on role is ideal for someone looking to gain direct experience in sports administration, facility readiness, event production, and fan experience.
You'll work closely with venue staff, coaches, officials, and external vendors to ensure every event runs smoothly from load-in to wrap-up.
This internship opportunity is especially well suited to someone building toward a career in sports broadcast or sports media, who wants sustained, hands-on exposure to how a live sporting event actually comes together.
Key Responsibilities
Game-Day Execution & Operations
- Assist with complete setup and teardown of game-day facilities, including court/field layout, bench areas, scoreboards, sound systems, and signage
- Serve as a primary point of contact for visiting teams, officials, and game staff to ensure their logistical needs (locker rooms, warm-up schedules, towels, water) are met
- Support table crew and game staff operations (e.g., scorekeepers, shot clock operators, public address announcers)
- Monitor game-day timelines (pre-game routines, halftime schedules, post-game procedures) to keep events running strictly on schedule
Event Logistics & Venue Readiness
- Conduct pre-event walk-throughs to inspect venue cleanliness, safety standards, and equipment functionality
- Assist in managing inventory for game-day equipment, uniforms, and event supplies
- Coordinate parking, entry protocols, and access control for teams, VIPs, and spectators
Fan Experience & In-Game Entertainment
- Support the execution of in-game promotions, halftime activations, and spectator contests
- Assist with music cues, public address announcements, and audio/visual elements during the event
- Handle fan inquiries or operational issues on-site with a high standard of customer service
Broadcast, Ticketing & Merchandise Support
- Manage the ticketing platform, including setup and day to day ticket sales support
- Set up, operate, and provide ongoing support for live stream broadcasts of home games
- Support merchandise sales on game days
- Write game scripts (e.g., pre-game, halftime, and in-game announcer scripts) to guide game day presentation
Post-Game & Administrative Support
- Direct post-game breakdown, equipment lock-up, and venue reset
- Track game-day metrics (attendance, operational notes, incidents) to assist with post-event reporting
- Work closely with the events manager to execute smooth operation across weekly planning and debriefs for upcoming games or tournaments
Qualifications & Experience
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Sports Management, Event Management, Kinesiology, Business Administration, or a related field
- Background, coursework, or demonstrated interest in sports broadcast or sports media is a strong asset. This role is best suited to a highly committed candidate looking to build a career in that field, which is why the 8-month term is preferred over a shorter placement
- Prior experience or background in sports, event execution, or customer service is a strong asset
- Ability to lift 35–50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods during setup and teardown
Skills & Competencies
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and select holidays based on the game schedule, in addition to a standing weekly commitment
- High level of adaptability and quick problem-solving under pressure
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Sharp attention to detail and strong time management
