Location Flexibility: The candidate may work on-site or pick up components and complete the work off-site before returning the finished units. Candidates choosing to work off-site must carry full insurance coverage for the duration of the work.
Key Responsibilities
- Solder through-hole and surface-mount components (SMD/SMT) onto PCBs using hand soldering irons, hot air rework stations, and/or reflow ovens
- Assemble embedded system boards according to schematics, bill of materials (BOM), and assembly drawings
- Perform rework and repairs, including desoldering, component replacement, and trace repair
- Inspect solder joints visually and under magnification (microscope/loupe) for defects such as cold joints, bridging, or tombstoning
- Conduct basic continuity and functional testing using multimeters and oscilloscopes
- Handle fine-pitch components (QFN, BGA, 0402/0201 passives) with precision
- Follow ESD-safe handling procedures and maintain a clean, organized workstation
- Document assembly steps, defects, and rework actions for quality traceability
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot board issues and suggest process improvements
- Maintain and calibrate soldering equipment as needed
Required Qualifications
- 1+ years of hands-on soldering experience (electronics assembly, prototyping, or repair)
- Proficiency with both through-hole and SMT soldering techniques
- Familiarity with reading schematics, PCB layouts, and BOMs
- Steady hands and strong attention to detail for fine-pitch work
- Understanding of ESD-safe practices
- Ability to use basic test equipment (multimeter, continuity tester)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit/stand for extended periods while performing fine detail work
