Full job description

Title: Aboriginal Support Child Development Worker

Department: Community Programs

Pay Grid: Salary Range 2 ($25.89 - $33.98 per hour + eligible for wage enhancement top up)

Status: Regular Full-Time

Reporting to: Manager of Childcare Services

Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager of Childcare Services, the Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) Worker supports the delivery of culturally informed early childhood services for First Nations children and families within a licensed childcare environment. Guided by the Manager of Childcare Services and the Aboriginal Head Start On Reserve (AHSOR) program standards, the ASCD Worker supports programming that incorporates the six core components of Aboriginal Head Start: culture and language, education, health promotion, nutrition, social support, and parent/family involvement.

The role focuses on coordinating supports, promoting inclusion, and connecting families with appropriate community services and resources, while assisting with planning and implementing activities that promote the holistic development of children (ages 0–6).

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

Support daily program activities and inclusive practices within childcare settings.
Work with ASCD Assistants and provide professional guidance to childcare providers and families to support inclusive and culturally safe practices.
Work collaboratively with childcare providers, ASCD Assistants, and multidisciplinary professionals to support coordinated service delivery.
Assist in facilitating referrals and connecting families to appropriate community services, as directed.
Support the implementation of individualized care plans under the guidance of the Manager of Childcare Services.
Assist families by providing information, resources, and encouragement to support informed decision-making.
Provide support by attending and scheduling meetings, including Early Development Planning meetings, and maintaining agendas.
Coordinate and support the Manager with arrangements for community events or programs.
Assist in liaising with external agencies and preparing required documentation and reporting, as directed by the Manager.
Assist with accounting activities, including preparing cheque requisitions in eRequester, recording payments, issuing receipts, and tracking and managing expenses accurately.
Provide administrative support to the Manager, including managing administrative tasks and drafting reports.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential information and documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements, including case notes and required program records.
Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience & Attributes:

Must have a valid Early Childhood Educator license.
Current Child Care Facilities and Licensing-approved Childcare First Aid certificate.
Responsible Adult Program certification is an asset.
Two years of work experience in inclusive childcare, including experience with community-based, multidisciplinary services.
Demonstrate ability to use a cultural safety framework when working with Aboriginal children, families and communities.
Knowledge of community childcare resources, community support services, and the strengths and needs of communities served under the Ministry of Children and Family Development Supported Child Development Special Needs Policy is an asset.
Knowledge and interest in Lil’wat Nation territory, culture, and history an asset.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.
Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and time management skills.
Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector.
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, a clean Driver’s Abstract, and a reliable vehicle is an asset.
