Overview

As a Personal Lines Underwriting Assistant, you will help drive the growth and profitability of SPG Canada. Working alongside a team of experienced individuals, managers, and executives, you will support our underwriters and deliver exceptional service to our broker partners. In addition to underwriting support, you will occasionally assist with front desk duties such as greeting visitors and handling incoming calls. You will have the opportunity to build meaningful broker relationships while developing your skills and growing your career in the insurance industry.

This is an in-office position based in our Langley, BC office.

Responsibilities

This position will:

Develop and maintain excellent relationships with underwriters and brokers through discussions and correspondence
Process and issue documents as instructed by underwriters and managers
Meet service standard and turnaround time with respect to the issuance of documents
Support Managers and Underwriters with general administrative tasks
Produce and distribute correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
Work closely with underwriters to assist with the underwriting functions
Document observations made during pre-reviews of files to assist underwriters
Complete renewal pre-reviews and may approve renewal referrals within authority
Perform underwriting support functions at the direction of underwriters including bind confirmations, and certificates with a high degree of accuracy
Preparing Certificates of Insurance
Edit & formatting of documents using a variety of software & programs
Review documents for accuracy
Maintain and innovate administrative workflow procedures to increase efficiency
Communicate internally with other departments via e-mail and telephone
Communicate externally with brokers as required
Build and maintain electronic and any applicable hard copy records following established guidelines and processes
Provide general administrative, facilities, and front desk support for the branch as needed
- Welcome and greet staff and guests visiting the office
- Oversee office supply inventory, including tracking and ordering
- Coordinate incoming and outgoing mail and parcels

Qualifications

You're a good fit if you have:

1-2 years of experience with transferrable skills in Customer service, administration or insurance
A valid broker license (level 1 or 2) is considered an asset
Can type a minimum of 40 words per minute
Have good communication skills
Are proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word
Willing to take insurance courses for continued growth and industry knowledge
Are familiar with the basic legal structures in Canada

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position is from $40,000 – $45,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope and level.
