The Faculty of Art invites applications for the following anticipated course offering in the Fall/Winter 2026-27 academic year:

EXAN-2002: Animated Storytelling (0.5 credit)
(Winter 2027 Semester: January 7, 2027 – April 23, 2027; Thursday: 6:30PM - 9:30PM; In-Person)

COURSE DESCRIPTION: How and why do we tell stories through animation? Students explore the visual vocabulary of animation critically in order to communicate their intent in effective, meaningful and innovative ways. The course addresses the cultural and linguistic specificity of the storytelling medium and the thoughtfulness required when creating fictional characters and situations. Short projects are supported by screenings, readings and seminar discussions on concept and theme development, plot structure, screenwriting, storyboarding, animatics, layout, staging and editing. Conventions of moving image language are contrasted with experimental, abstract and personal approaches.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experience
Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty
Experience providing clear direction, mentorship and supervision to Teaching Assistants.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with salary level of $7,508.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act. These positions are subject to budgetary approval and satisfactory enrolment levels.
