Full job description

Overview
The Family Support Worker is specific to the role of “supervision” and provides a bridge between children and their families / significant others to maintain connections where concerns and issues are identified. The Family Support Worker will observe and report on parenting skills, family relationships, and ensure the safety of all members in the access visit. The Family Support Worker may serve as an advocate for families and children, as well as an assessment tool for CFS and/or DFNA workers in determining the ability of parents to learn adaptive and acceptable ways in which to parent their children. The Family Support Worker pairs their knowledge and passion for families and children with the ability to apply clinical skills and assess interactions and activities in families.

Responsibilities

Participates in the supervision of access between children and their families (ie. parents, siblings, etc.) with a means to ensure safe and healthy interactions, etc.
Coaching and teaching of parenting and other related skills through the role modelling of appropriate behaviors and can assess client needs and strengths and use systematic plans of instruction, teaching methods and therapeutic approaches to transfer information and skills.
Reviews client information and coordinates effective implementation of supported access that aligns with funder (CFS or DFNA) concerns. Ensures that areas are being addressed on a consistent basis and notifies the Program Coordinator and/or the funder of any client needs related to access.
Responsible for timely documentation all client related material including Critical Incidents and Noteworthy Events, case notes, monthly reporting / service plans and information from outside sources.
Utilizes relationship building to teach and/or influence problem-solving, de-escalation / crisis response, preventative and/or planned interventions.
Participation, as needed, in meetings and/or training related to the program and/or client including, but not limited to: case planning and reviews with funder, team meetings, sector or organizational training, supervision, etc.
Other tasks as required to facilitate client care / reporting (ie. attendance at court, liaising with funder and other professionals, etc.)

Skills

One (1) year of previous experience in working with children and families and/or in a related field.
Knowledge and experience in working with a trauma-informed and Client-Centred approach.
Demonstrated understanding of diversity and supporting equality of opportunities.
Strong knowledge of external, supportive and community services and systems available to clients.
Effective crisis management skills.
Strong critical thinking skills in complex situations that align with policies and legislation.
Excellent communication (oral and written), presentation, organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
Responds well to challenges. Able to plan, organize and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines. Can
effectively manage multiple tasks and varying workloads.
Positive attitude, good listener and problem solver.
Must be discreet and maintain confidentiality to safeguard the security of clients and others.
Ability to work together in a team setting by being positive, professional and approachable.
The ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, employees and families.
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members

Educational Requirement:

Degree or Diploma in the Human Services field with at least one year of related experience in working with children and families. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certificate(s) requirement:

A Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (condition of employment)
Child Intervention Check (condition of employment)
Must be registered with the relevant professional organization as governed by the Health Professions Act.
Must have current CPR and First Aid certification.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $25.00-$27.00 per hour
