We are seeking a Senior Full ‑ Stack Software Engineer to help drive the roadmap for our Group Benefits Experience assets, our primary digital gateway for our Clients and Members managing their benefits and health, and a core part of how Canadians experience Manulife online. In this role, you ’ ll lead the evolution of modern applications built with JavaScript, React, Redux, Node.js, GraphQL, MongoDB and more, while also guiding the modernization of existing .NET and Java systems. You ’ ll work closely with Software, Quality and Platform Engineers in a collaborative, quality-focused team that takes pride in building reliable, performant, and secure software.

Position Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Shape and evolve the end-to-end architecture in partnership with Architecture, Product and Platform teams, influencing technical strategy to modernize our stack and deliver incremental, high-value outcomes.
Design, build, and operate scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across React front ends, Node.js APIs, GraphQL and .NET/Java ecosystems, ensuring long-term maintainability and performance.
Engineering Excellence & Delivery
- Elevate engineering maturity by driving best practices in testing, CI/CD, and operational excellence, using telemetry and observability tools (e.g., New Relic, Moogsoft) to continuously improve reliability and system performance.
Deliver high-quality software through disciplined craftsmanship, balancing speed with innovation while consistently raising the bar on code quality.
- Collaborate deeply across engineering, quality, and cross-functional teams through pairing, mentoring, and thoughtful code reviews to build a strong, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
Contribute to and leverage open source and inner source ecosystems, creating reusable capabilities and sharing knowledge that scales across teams.
AI-Enabled Innovation & Ownership
- Champion the responsible use of AI tools to accelerate development, reduce manual effort, and enhance decision-making while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and compliance.
Bring curiosity, ownership, and pride to your work, continuously learning, improving, and delivering impactful solutions that benefit both customers and the broader engineering organization.
- Full-stack expertise : JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, GraphQL; exposure to .NET/Java
- Extensive experience on Cloud Platforms, Azure Kubernetes, K9s, Terraform, MongoDB Atlas
- Experience designing scalable, secure product solutions, and reusable engineering assets.
- Ability to drive engineering maturity, testing automation, CI/CD, and observability practices
Strong risk-aware mindset with ability to balance technical delivery with risk at all times
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in Scaled Agile environments is preferred
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers, and a commitment to building your own skills through continuous learning and exploration
Experience building responsible AI agents, skills and integrating capabilities into development pipelines

Salary range is expected to be between
$113,000.00 CAD - $163,000.00 CAD
Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
