Position will be based in Brampton with some travel to our Oakville clinic.

Prism Eye Institute (PEI) has been serving the communities of North York, Brampton, Oakville/Mississauga and surrounding areas for over 50 years.

In 2020 North Toronto Eye Care (NTEC) merged with Prism Eye Institute, to form Prism Group Holdings (Prism) and the largest Ophthalmology practice in Canada.

In 2022, PEI further strengthened a partnership with Vision Group Canada (VGC) and is working to expand its footprint nationally. VGC operates over 50 clinics and 70 surgical facilities performing over 100,000 procedures annually.

PEI is an internationally renowned institute with 5 facilities and 2 surgical centres, serving over 200,000 patients and perform 10,000 surgeries each year. Prism is a centre of excellence providing a full spectrum of eye care and recognized for handling some of the most complex eye diseases in the world.

Tasks:

Take patients' general medical, family, and ophthalmic history.
Pretest patients and instruct them on diagnostic procedures, ensuring accurate documentation of results.
Operate ophthalmic instruments including the Auto-refractor and Lensometer.
Conduct slit lamp examinations and measure intraocular eye pressure.
Perform various diagnostic tests, including visual field assessments, OCT scans, fundus photography, topography evaluations, Oculus Keratograph assessments, and biometry measurements such as A-scan and IOL Master assessments for pre-operative patients.
Counsel patients on dry eye treatments and provide patient education as needed.
Perform dry eye treatments such as ZEST, Radio-frequency, LipiFlow, and Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT).
Administer eye drops, ointments, and medications as directed by ophthalmologists.
Assist ophthalmologists with treatments including IPL, dilation and irrigation, and intraductal probing.
Assist ophthalmologists during minor office procedures as required.
Maintain attentiveness to patient and doctor needs within the treatment room and troubleshoot equipment issues as necessary.
Clean, sterilize, and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment following proper protocols.
Greet patients upon arrival, direct them appropriately, and provide general information in person, by phone, or by email while maintaining information security.
Schedule and confirm medical appointments and referrals accurately using the EMR and other systems in collaboration with departments.
Verify OHIP eligibility and explain insured and non-insured testing.
Respond promptly to patient and departmental inquiries via phone, email, Oscar messages, and the web portal.
Operate a switchboard to answer, screen, and forward calls and take messages.
Prepare patient charts and ensure completion of all necessary documentation prior to visits.
Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation is recorded in the electronic medical record (EMR), patient logs, and office communications.
Review, interpret, and triage incoming referrals according to urgency, subspecialty, and booking protocols.
Handle payments, issue receipts, and manage the receipt and faxing of reports to referring offices.
Perform administrative duties such as completing insurance and claim forms, maintaining confidential medical files, and preparing reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, and documents for review.
Audit work for accuracy, track weekly metrics, and ensure proper documentation in patient logs and communications.
Assist with office administrative tasks including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and supporting billing processes.
Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and provide excellent patient care.
Perform other related duties and ad hoc tasks as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.

What You Bring:

College diploma in ophthalmology/health care industry preferred.
1-2 years’ practical experience within a medical/ophthalmology clinical office environment preferred.
Resourcefulness and a strong attention to detail.
Exceptional communication skills.
Proficiency in using software and computers.
Flourishing in fast-paced environments.
An ability to adapt quickly to changes.
