ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Tikva Housing Society (“THS” / “Tikva”) is a charitable non-profit housing society that provides access to innovative and affordable housing solutions, primarily for Jewish individuals and families. Tikva Rental Housing Society (“TRHS”) is a non-profit society established by THS to operate mixed-income housing developments. TRHS employs all staff working for both organizations and provides operational support to THS.

JOB PURPOSE

The Manager, Community & External Relations, is pivotal in overseeing and implementing strategies to enhance the organization's public image, build strategic partnerships within the community and with external stakeholders, support fundraising efforts, enhance donor relations, and boost income generation through various fundraising initiatives. The Manager, Community & External Relations reports to the Executive Director and supports the Community Relations Committee activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising & Development

Responsible for Operational Key Results (OKRs), as related to a strategic plan.
Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates Tikva's fundraising strategies and planning, including identifying and securing funding from government, corporate, foundation, and individual donor sources.
Leads the planning, execution, and evaluation of fundraising campaigns and donor engagement initiatives.
Develops and maintains relationships with prospective sponsors, donors, funders, and grant-making organizations.
Researches, writes, and submits grant applications and funding proposals.
Generates donor reports and advises on strategies to enhance long-term relationships.

Communications

Develops and executes integrated communications, marketing, and public relations strategies that strengthen the organization's brand, increase stakeholder awareness, and cultivate meaningful relationships with key external audiences.
Actively engages, cultivates, and manages media relationships to ensure coverage of the organization's special events, public announcements, and other projects.
Leads the development and production of various communications, including newsletters, event materials, holiday greetings, and all print communications (e.g. the Organization’s annual Impact Report)
Manages media and interview requests, creates content for press releases, byline articles, and keynote presentations.
Manages event planning and presentations and creates supportive materials such as speaking notes for Tikva’s Annual General Meetings.
Leads the design and distribution of marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency.
Oversees digital communications strategy, including website and social media content planning, audience engagement, brand consistency, and adherence to organizational communications policies and standards.

Community & External Relations

Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with other housing providers, community organizations, and government/municipal bodies, and represents Tikva at external community tables and coalitions related to affordable housing.
Supports Tenant-Led Committees engagement in coordination with property management and other Tikva staff.

Donor Relations

Leads donor stewardship activities and cultivates strong relationships with corporate sponsors, individual donors, foundations, and other funding partners.
Oversees donor communications, including newsletters, annual reports, and donor appreciation efforts and recognition programs.
Oversees donor database integrity with up-to-date information on contributions and engagement.
Communicates with donors about publicity opportunities and the development of donor incentives.

General

Supervises and provides direction to the Communications, Fundraising & Administrative Coordinator.
Monitors emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in communications, fundraising, and donor engagement, and supports the implementation of systems and tools that strengthen organizational effectiveness.
Generates and maintains a departmental fiscal budget.
Engages in significant projects as required, such as campaign development, strategic partnerships, or organizational expansions.
Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English, Journalism, or a related field.
Minimum three (3) years of experience at a supervisory or management level.
At least two (2) years of experience in fundraising, marketing, community relations or business development, preferably within the non-profit, charitable, or similar sector.
Working knowledge of web design is preferred.

Specialized Knowledge:

Understanding of strategic communication principles, including brand messaging and public relations.
Understanding social housing and awareness of related sector trends.
Understanding of community engagement practices and municipal or government relations, particularly within the housing or non-profit sector.
Familiarity with fundraising techniques and donor relations strategies.
Knowledge of grant writing and fund development planning.

Skills & Abilities:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
Self-directed with a professional and adaptable approach.
Competent at working efficiently under pressure to meet fundraising targets.

Personal Characteristics:

Collaborative mindset with a focus on team success.
Strong relationship-builder who proactively cultivates donor, community, stakeholder, and partnership opportunities.
Exhibits discretion and strategic thinking in communications, community development and external relations activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical: Requires some walking and the ability to use stairs regularly.

Mental: Attention to detail and extensive periods of concentration.

Psychological: Manages team dynamics and supports staff during high-pressure campaigns, ensuring effective communication in sensitive or high-stress situations, and potentially dealing with emotionally charged scenarios.

Environmental: Primarily office-based with the flexibility to coordinate community, external, and fundraising engagements and events, adapting schedules to optimize for various climate conditions.

COMPENSATION

Full-time, Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
In-office (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM and occasional evenings as well as community and external engagements).
Competitive annual salary of $75,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience
Comprehensive benefits package, including extended health and dental coverage, paid vacation, a Health Spending Account, and 3% RRSP matching program.
In addition to statutory holidays, time off is provided for most Jewish holidays when they fall on a workday, with schedule accommodations for Shabbat.

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
