Heavy Equipment Operator – Civil Construction

Location: Lower Mainland, BC
Pay: $38.00 – $48.00 per hour + overtime
Job Type: Full-time | Permanent

We are currently looking for an experienced and motivated Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing team.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently
Complete excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, and material handling operations
Work safely around underground utilities and existing infrastructure
Follow grade stakes, laser levels, GPS systems, and direction from site supervision
Assist pipe crews with utility installation and trench preparation
Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
Identify and report equipment deficiencies or safety concerns
Maintain awareness of ground conditions, overhead hazards, and surrounding crew members
Communicate effectively with foremen, labourers, pipe layers, and truck drivers
Follow company safety policies, site procedures, and WorkSafeBC regulations
Keep equipment clean and maintain professional standards on site

Qualifications

Previous heavy equipment operating experience in civil construction required
Experience operating excavators, loaders, backhoes, dozers skid steers, other related equipment
Strong understanding of safe excavation and trenching practices
Experience working around underground utilities and existing infrastructure
Ability to read grades, stakes, and site layouts
GPS and laser grade experience considered an asset
Valid BC Driver’s License required
Strong understanding of construction site safety requirements and PPE
Ability to work safely and efficiently
Good communication and teamwork skills
Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality
Ability to take direction and work independently when required
Ability to perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
Experience with municipal infrastructure and underground utility projects considered an asset
Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends as required
