JOB TITLE:
Senior Design Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for the development and advancement of new technologies by proactively contributing high-impact ideas and innovative designs that align with the company’s strategic growth objectives. This role focuses on continuously improving the safety, efficiency, and overall capabilities of the company’s equipment and processes.
LOCATION:
This is an on-site position, based out of our Cambridge, ON office. This position is 40 hours of week from Monday – Friday.
On an infrequent basis, the successful candidate will be required to travel to worksites to evaluate work processes, develop new design concepts, and commission new equipment, and oversee load testing activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the design, development, and continuous improvement of LiftWerx’s proprietary crane-less lifting systems, tooling, and engineered solutions for wind turbine corrective repairs.
- Manage complex engineering projects from concept through deployment, including requirements definition, design, analysis, prototyping, testing, validation, and implementation.
- Develop innovative mechanical and structural designs that improve safety, efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for major component exchanges and corrective maintenance activities.
- Perform engineering calculations, structural assessments, risk analyses, and design reviews to ensure equipment and systems meet performance requirements and applicable industry standards.
- Create and approve detailed engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, procedures, and design documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Field teams, Project Managers, Supply Chain, and HSE teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and field-ready.
- Provide technical leadership during equipment installations, commissioning activities, field trials, and major repair operations as required.
- Investigate equipment performance issues, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions to improve product reliability and operational efficiency.
- Support the development of new technologies and innovative solutions that strengthen LiftWerx’s position as a leader in crane-less wind turbine maintenance and repair.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable engineering codes, regulatory requirements, safety standards, and company quality processes.
- Participate in design verification and validation activities, including testing plans, failure mode analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work directly with customers, suppliers, and external engineering partners to define requirements, resolve technical challenges, and support project execution.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, designers, and co-op students, fostering technical growth, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across the engineering team.
- Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and design process improvements to enhance organizational effectiveness and project delivery.
- Support the advancement of sustainable wind energy solutions by developing technologies that reduce costs, minimize environmental impact, and improve the efficiency of major corrective repairs.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or civil engineering is required.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng).
- Lean-6Sigma yellow/green/black belt is an asset.
Experience
- Minimum five years of experience in related industry.
- Hands on experience working with tools, machinery, heavy equipment, or vehicles, at a professional or hobby level is an asset.
Knowledge/Skills
- Specific skills related to cranes, welded and formed steel structures, aluminum structures, machining, heavy equipment, hydraulics, electronics and controls, as it relates to engineering and operations are an asset.
- Possession of a valid passport and ability to travel to job sites across North America on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to work both individually and in an established team setting.
- Valid driver’s license (class G or equivalent) and good driving record required.

Salary:$100,000 – $125,000 CAD
