We are a privately owned automotive group with a hands-on leadership team and a culture built around accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

We are seeking an experienced, CPA-designated finance professional with substantial automotive dealership experience to become a trusted member of our leadership team.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Dealer Principal, this senior hands-on position is responsible for the financial leadership, business administration, governance, and operational support of the organization.

You will oversee a small accounting and administration team while working closely with managers across every department to improve financial performance, strengthen business processes, maintain regulatory compliance, and support the continued growth of the company.

This position is best suited to someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats, thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, and wants to help build a better business—not simply report on one.

This is not an entry-level leadership role and is not intended for candidates who are still developing their automotive dealership accounting experience.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership

Lead all day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
Prepare monthly financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and business analysis.
Complete monthly manufacturer financial reporting and submissions.
Oversee payroll, commissions, employee benefits, and related reporting.
Coordinate year-end reporting, taxation, and compliance with external accountants.
Monitor profitability, departmental performance, expenses, margins, and key performance indicators.

Business Operations

Partner with department managers to improve operational performance and profitability.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, eliminate duplication, and improve efficiency.
Develop meaningful financial reporting and business intelligence that supports better decision-making.
Champion the practical use of AI, automation, and technology to improve productivity and reporting.

Banking, Commercial Relationships & Administration

Maintain strong relationships with banks, lenders, manufacturers, suppliers, and professional advisors.
Manage banking requirements, lender reporting, and treasury functions.
Negotiate and administer leases, contracts, vendor agreements, and commercial relationships.
Protect the company’s commercial interests while operating within approved authority.

Governance, Compliance & Corporate Administration

Ensure corporate governance and regulatory compliance across the organization.
Oversee business licences, insurance renewals, statutory filings, and corporate records.
Coordinate taxation, legal documentation, and regulatory reporting.
Ensure compliance with automotive industry regulations, privacy legislation, CASL, and other applicable requirements.

Technology & Information Systems

Work closely with our external IT providers to oversee the company’s technology infrastructure.
Support cybersecurity initiatives, data protection, disaster recovery planning, and IT governance.
Ensure dealership management systems, accounting systems, telecommunications, and business technologies remain secure and effective.
Evaluate and implement new technologies that improve efficiency, reporting, and decision-making.

Property & Family Office Support

Assist with the administration of a small commercial real estate portfolio, including leases, maintenance coordination, and property administration.
Provide selected financial and administrative support to the family office while coordinating with external professional advisors.

Leadership

Lead and mentor a small accounting and administration team.
Oversee payroll, benefits administration, and selected HR processes.
Allocate work effectively while maximizing the use of administrative resources.
Build accountability through communication, collaboration, and practical leadership.
Ensure the finance and administration team provides exceptional support to revenue-producing departments.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

Canadian CPA designation (required).
Significant senior finance experience within an automotive dealership environment.
Previous experience as an Automotive Controller, Senior Controller, Finance Manager, or equivalent senior finance leadership role.
Thorough knowledge of dealership financial statements, manufacturer reporting, fixed operations, inventory, parts, service, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, taxation, and internal controls.
Experience maintaining banking relationships and treasury functions.
Experience negotiating leases, contracts, vendor agreements, and commercial arrangements.
Strong understanding of corporate governance, regulatory compliance, business licences, taxation, and statutory reporting.
Experience overseeing payroll, employee benefits, and selected HR administration.
Strong understanding of IT governance, cybersecurity, and working effectively with external IT providers.
Experience with dealership management systems; PBS experience is considered an asset.
Advanced analytical, reporting, and Microsoft Excel skills.
