St. Clair College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Nurse provides health care to the College Community by performing health assessments, preventative health care, health education and emergency care of the sick or injured in accordance with legislative regulations and written medical directives. More specifically, as the prime medical liaison and resource person, the incumbent assists students and staff with return to work and injury management, wellness, occupational health and safety issues, student placement health requirements and other health related issues as necessary.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Clinical Nursing Care 60%

Provides first aid and health advising for staff and students for illness, injury and health concerns by utilizing the Nursing Process and Medical Directives issued by Nurse Practitioners and/or Physicians
Maintains comprehensive and confidential health records in accordance with legislative regulations (i.e., College of Nurses of Ontario and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) on an Electronic Medical Record system
Responds to medical emergencies on Campus
Completes College Incident Reports for those injured while involved in College activities
Promotes proper procedures for infection control and epidemiology through awareness of principles of infection control and transmission, microbiological organisms, current community health regulations and standards and is responsible for advising staff and students on the appropriate steps to take following an injury or exposure to infectious conditions

Health Education/Awareness 25%

Provides health education through health awareness activities (such as health fairs) and initiates health theme activities through the use of the College e-mail system and student newspaper
Provides health counseling during individual visits/appointments, facilitates problem-solving during crisis situations and refers to internal or external resources as appropriate
An integral member of the Return to Work/Accommodated Work team whose mandate is early and safe return to work for injured employees.
An integral member of the Wellness team, working on health and wellness initiatives for staff and students

Health Services Administrative Duties 15%

Collaborates with the Nurse Practitioners in establishing written medical directives and reviews these annually
Collaborates with the on-call Physician as needed
Assists students with meeting clinical placement health requirements and works collaboratively with Coordinators on process. This is based on clinical placement requirements and typically involves issuing vaccines and performing vitals, blood work, etc.

Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of a four-year degree or equivalent in Nursing and/or applicable education or experience.

EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of five years’ experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in a health care setting, as well as an additional year in independent nursing.

ANALYSIS & PROBLEM SOLVING

Providing Primary Clinical Nursing Care to Staff and Students
Responding to emergency medical situations involving staff, students and visitors to the College.
Acts as resource to College Health and Safety Committee

PLANNING/COORDINATING

Promoting health education through health awareness activities.
Purchasing and maintaining all supplies and equipment for the Health Centre, including pamphlets and health promotion materials.
