Cloud Data Analyst / Data Scientist (DBA Modernization)

Location: Calgary, AB (Hybrid – 4 days onsite/week)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Data Analyst / Data Scientist (DBA Modernization) to support a cloud-focused data transformation initiative. This role is ideal for a professional who combines strong database expertise with cloud data analytics capabilities.

The successful candidate will help evolve traditional database administration practices into a modern cloud data platform approach focused on SQL performance optimization, cloud database operations, data analytics, observability, troubleshooting, and platform enablement.

This position requires a strong understanding of relational databases, cloud platforms, application workloads, and data-driven optimization strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and database workloads to improve performance.
Support cloud-hosted database configuration, administration, and operational activities.
Perform database performance analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigation.
Monitor database health, availability, and performance metrics.
Analyze application data usage patterns and recommend improvements for scalability, reliability, and cost optimization.
Support application modernization and cloud migration initiatives.
Assist with data quality improvements, reporting enablement, and analytics initiatives.
Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency improvements.
Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and data teams to improve platform performance.
Provide technical recommendations related to cloud database architecture and optimization.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong SQL skills with experience analyzing and working across relational database platforms.
Hands-on experience with query optimization, index tuning, and workload performance improvements.
Experience with cloud database platforms such as:
Azure SQL Database
Azure Database for PostgreSQL
Oracle
SQL Server
Similar managed database services
Experience with:
Database monitoring
Performance tuning
Capacity planning
Operational troubleshooting
Incident triage
Ability to analyze database usage patterns and recommend improvements.
Experience supporting cloud migration and application modernization programs.
Familiarity with cloud-native operational practices, automation, and Infrastructure as Code concepts.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

Experience with analytics, reporting, visualization, or data science techniques.
Experience with Azure monitoring and observability tools.
Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar technologies.
Experience working in enterprise environments with complex data ecosystems.

Work Requirements

Must be able to work onsite in Calgary, AB 4 days per week.
Final interview process includes a 15-minute PS Calgary Meet & Greet.
Successful candidate must complete in-person laptop pickup and verification at the PS office.

Pay: $200,000.00-$232,000.00 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Calgary, AB
