Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Intermediate Automation Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role offers a flexible remote working arrangement with on-site requirements as needed. The role centers on detailed I&C design, developing control system deliverables such as I/O lists, instrument and I/O datasheets, control narratives, loop and wiring drawings, and panel layouts, together with the programming, configuration, and commissioning of PLC, DCS, and HMI/SCADA systems. The incumbent interprets design drawings, submittals, and specifications to develop, program, and test sequences of operation, applying independent problem-solving and sound engineering judgment within established procedures. Work is self-directed within scope and reviewed to ensure soundness of approach and attainment of assigned objectives.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed I&C design on industrial projects, including control narratives, I/O architecture, loop and instrument design, panel layouts, cable schedules, and instrument indices.
- Develop control system design deliverables, including I/O lists, instrument and I/O datasheets, control narratives, and sequence-of-operation specifications.
- Design, program, and configure Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCSs), and Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications, and create and test sequences of operation for processes of moderate complexity.
- Set up and maintain industrial networks, including Ethernet and fieldbus systems.
- Participate in the testing, commissioning, and startup of automation systems, including point-to-point, pre-functional, and functional testing and FAT/SAT support.
- Develop and issue commissioning and startup plans and check sheets; perform system startups, network connections, and field troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot and maintain clients’ existing automation systems, and create or modify graphics interfaces as required.
- Coordinate I&C design with the electrical, process, and mechanical disciplines to deliver integrated, constructible solutions.
- Evaluate vendor submittals, support technical bid evaluation, and provide technical input to proposals and project scoping.
- Perform site-specific PLC/operator training for owner/operators.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with QA procedures within project teams; participate in assessing, planning, and implementing standards, tools, and processes within the discipline.Skills
- Strong experience with automation testing tools such as Selenium WebDriver, TestNG, JUnit, Appium (Android/iOS), and related frameworks.
- Proficiency in programming languages including Java, C#, Python, C++, Bash (Unix shell), PHP, HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Node.js.
- Experience working with databases like MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server; knowledge of SQL/PLSQL for data validation.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, GitLab/GitHub/GitHub Actions, SVN/TFS for version control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS and Azure for deployment/testing environments.
- Understanding of network fundamentals including computer networking concepts relevant to system integration.
- Experience with UI/UX testing for mobile applications on Android/iOS platforms; familiarity with Visual Studio/Eclipse IDEs.
- Ability to work across multiple operating systems including Windows and Linux environments.
- Strong analysis skills for troubleshooting issues related to software performance or network connectivity.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively within a remote team environment while managing on-site tasks as required.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for an intermediate-level engineer eager to develop innovative automation solutions within a flexible work setting that emphasizes technical growth and collaboration across diverse projects.
