YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Engineer, Geotechnical, you will be part of the Environment Department. As this is a new position for Hope Bay, you are expected to be a self-starter, self-sufficient and demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude. You will play a key role in the planning, installation and maintenance of instrumentation associated with the management of our water management structure, tailings impoundment area, waste rock and ore storage facilities. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and the environment.

Conduct regular inspections and collect, compile, and analyze instrumentation and operational data to assess the performance of water management structures, including dikes, collection ponds, and channels;

Perform inspections and data analysis to monitor the integrity and performance of Waste Rock Storage Facilities (WRSFs) and the Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF);

Install, calibrate, and maintain geotechnical instrumentation;

Support the development of small-scale design packages by preparing layouts, cross-sections, and other technical drawings;

Contribute to the preparation of as-built documentation to record maintenance activities and ensure compliance with design specifications;

Monitor the performance of water management structures (dikes, collection ponds, and channels) through inspections;

Collect field data in remote locations in diverse environmental conditions;

Work safely, effectively, independently, and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;

Provide field survey support to operations to verify construction in accordance with design drawings and technical specifications using a Trimble GNSS system.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

College Diploma or bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering Technology or a related field, or equivalent qualifications and experience;

3 to 5 years of experience, preferably in a mining or industrial setting;

Experience with data acquisition, data management, and quality control monitoring;

Experience with the installation of geotechnical instrumentation and associated systems such as dataloggers, antenna networks, and integration with the visualization platform;

Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;

Experience with modeling software such as Deswik or other CAD software is considered an asset;

Experience in the Arctic or Permafrost environment is considered an asset;

Knowledge of mining operations and their challenges is an asset;

Physically fit and able to walk up to 17 km per shift, including several flights of stairs. Ability to lift and carry loads up to 15 kg in weight;

Able and willing to work in extreme weather conditions is required;

Good written and verbal communication skills;

First Aid & CPR Certificate;

Valid driver’s license;

Hands-on, self-sufficient, and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.

Note that the official working language at Hope Bay is English.

Your Work Schedule

Schedule: 21 days of work, followed by 21 days for transportation and rest;

Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
