Job Description
-
Supporting database design, creation, testing, and maintenance. This includes designing database backups, archiving, and storage strategy.

Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain enterprise RDBMS platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and others (on-premises and/or cloud)

Monitor database performance, capacity, and storage growth

Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning/testing

Implement high availability solutions (Failover Clustering, Always on Availability Groups, Replication)
-
Optimize queries, indexes, and database performance
-
Manage database security, roles, permissions, and encryption
-
Identifying, reporting, and managing database security issues, audit trails, and forensics.
-
Installing upgrades and patches to various apps and associated databases.
-
Support EMR and other clinical application databases
-
Work closely with clinical application teams during upgrades, patches, and releases
-
Troubleshoot database-related application issues impacting clinical workflows, using critical thinking and problem-solving to identify root causes and effective solutions.

Follow vendor-specific best practices and change management processes to ensure databases are configured to optimum baseline that advances high availability and integrity.

Implement auditing, access controls, and data protection standards

Participate in security reviews and risk assessments

Collaborate with application analysts, infrastructure teams, and clinicians

Provide on-call support for critical systems (24/7 hospital environment)

Document database architecture, procedures, and standards

Support reporting, analytics, and data warehouse teams as needed, leveraging data reporting capabilities to deliver actionable insights.

Demonstrate an attitude for continuous learning by staying current with emerging database technologies and best practices.

Explore opportunities to utilize AI-driven solutions for database optimization, demonstrating knowledge and familiarity with AI.

Contributes to the development and implementation of the departmental strategic plan, demonstrating strategic thinking in aligning database initiatives with organizational goals.

Qualifications

Information Technology Degree or Diploma or equivalent education / work experience required
-
Industry standard technical certifications.
-
5+ years of SQL, Oracle, and/or other RDBMS DBA experience (healthcare preferred)
-
Strong knowledge of:
-
Enterprise RDBMS platforms (e.g., SQL, Oracle,)
-
Always On Availability Groups
-
Backup/Restore strategies
-
Performance tuning and monitoring
-
Proficient in Windows and Linux server administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting for database system
-
Knowledge of container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and deploying databases in containerized environments.

Experience supporting EMR and clinical applications
-
Experience designing or working with clinical data sets/model
-
Knowledge of Enterprise HIS data warehouses (i.e., MEDTECH, Oracle, EPIC) an asset
-
Knowledge of PowerShell or other scripting for automation
-
Knowledge of Windows Server environments
-
Knowledge of Fault Tolerant Architecture Design and Disaster Recover/Business Continuity Plans desirable

Strong strategic thinking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
-
Demonstrated attitude for continuous learning, with an ability to adapt to new technologies and practices in database management.

Knowledge and familiarity with AI would be an asset.

Technical writing / documentation skills required

Excellent verbal and written communication skills desirable

Additional Information
Status: Temporary Full-time (Approx. 18 months)
Hours: Monday - Friday - Days; day shifts (hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)
Salary: $49.185 to $61.507 per hour
