Full job description

Our client, a leading technology company serving the global aviation industry, known for innovation and a strong engineering culture, is seeking a Certification Engineer (Avionics Delegate) to join their Design Approval Organization (DAO). You will hold delegated authority from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) to perform engineering reviews, compliance verification, and certification approvals.

Delegation & Certification Approvals

Exercise Transport Canada delegation authority to review and approve engineering design data, compliance documentation, and certification deliverables.
Perform engineering reviews and issue approvals for STC programs, amendments, and modifications.
Lead and participate in Airworthiness Control Committee (ACC) meetings and DAO governance activities.
Serve as a primary technical interface with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) for certification activities.
Support engagement with foreign regulatory authorities (FAA, EASA, etc.) as required.

Avionics Technical Oversight

Review and approve avionics-related design data, including system architecture, wiring diagrams, EWIS, equipment installation drawings, and interface control documents.
Review and approve compliance documentation, including System Safety Assessments (SSA, FHA, PSSA), Electrical Load Analysis (ELA), environmental qualification (DO-160), and EMI/EMC analyses.
Provide technical oversight of avionics system integration across aircraft platforms.
Review Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) and Flight Manual Supplements (FMS).

STC Program Support

Support and lead end-to-end STC development programs from certification planning through approval.
Define and review certification strategies, means of compliance, and certification plans.
Support aircraft surveys, ground test, and flight test certification activities.
Ensure all certification deliverables meet applicable airworthiness regulations (TCCA, FAA, EASA).

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

Serve as a subject matter expert in avionics certification and delegation activities.
Mentor engineers on certification processes, STC development lifecycle, and regulatory requirements.
Support continuous improvement of DAO processes and certification procedures.
Provide business continuity and succession planning for DAO certification activities.

Proven Ability / Key Skills

Essential

Engineering degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Aerospace Engineering.
Minimum 8+ years of experience in aircraft certification, with a strong avionics focus.
Active Transport Canada Delegate designation (or demonstrated eligibility and willingness to obtain).
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing.
Demonstrated experience with avionics system integration, STC development, and regulatory approval processes.
Strong knowledge of TCCA airworthiness regulations, certification processes, and avionics compliance requirements (DO-160, system safety, EWIS).
Experience reviewing complex technical documentation with close attention to detail.
Ability to lead certification programs independently from planning through approval.
Willingness to travel as required.

Desirable

Experience as a primary technical interface with TCCA regulators.
Deep expertise in satellite communications (SATCOM), connectivity, data systems, or RF/antenna installations.
Experience with multi-aircraft STC programs or fleet-wide deployments.
Familiarity with FAA DER or EASA Form 4 processes.
Experience with DO-326A cybersecurity standard.
