Job Scope: Maintenance Mechanic Millwright plays a key role in keeping our 24/7 fluid milk processing operation running smoothly. Using preventative maintenance and troubleshooting expertise, this position maintains processing equipment, prioritizes safety, supports a clean work environment, and collaborates with Operators and colleagues to identify and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain all mechanical and electrical systems, and all machinery in the plant
- Troubleshoot and maintain processing equipment such as UHT, VTIS, Pasteurizer, Silos, AST tanks, valves and pumps
- Maintain and troubleshoot bag and carton fillers and high-speed packaging equipment
- Coordinate with Production, Maintenance and outside contractors and ensure that work is completed in a safe manner that complies with all necessary manufacturing codes, regulations and standards i.e. H&S, GMP’s, HACCP, WHMIS, SDS etc.
- Communicate daily Maintenance Activities with Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance team and update all daily logs
- Improve and maintain existing PM systems and ensure that required parts are ordered
- Identify opportunities and make recommendations to continuously improve maintenance operations and efficiencies
- Food Safety and Quality responsibility as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as other training materials provided and accurate record keeping
- Attend prescribed courses and training as required and other projects as assigned by Plant Management.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate must have a trade license, ideally a Millwright License or Electricians License (with a very strong mechanical background)
- Minimum 3 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry, and a background in the dairy industry would be an asset
- Must display excellent sanitary habits and possess knowledge of HACCP
- Strong preventative maintenance and troubleshooting ability
- Solid knowledge of high-speed filling and packaging lines
- Strong knowledge of PLC fault diagnostics, Motor and Motion control
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- Familiar with continuous improvement processes and methodologies considered an asset
- Valid Operating Engineer certificate would be a great asset
- Strong working knowledge of basic welding, machining and plumbing
- Good communication skills, including written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Must be flexible in terms of shift work and perform other duties as required
- Computer skills would be an asset
- Physically capable of performing the demands of the job
- Scissor lift and/or Genie boom operator training as well as forklift operator certificate will be considered an asset.
Physical Demands: Physically able to stand and walk for a considerable amount of time. Ability to climb stairs regularly. Crouching and working in awkward positions for moderate lengths of time. Ability to work at heights. Occasionally required to work in restricted or confined spaces. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods, as required. Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a full-face protection mask, as needed.
