Lift Community Services focuses on helping all people thrive in the qathet region by reducing social inequities and by providing support and advocacy for anyone who needs it. Our programs and services include employment services, supportive housing and homeless outreach, literacy programs and outreach, immigrant services, adult and family on-demand support. We also provide community leadership and development in overdose response planning, poverty reduction planning, and other projects that develop a more connected and resilient community.

The Position

The Support Worker provides non-clinical support to participants at the iOAT Clinic by assisting with daily routines, offering harm reduction information, and fostering a safe and welcoming environment. The role contributes to participant well-being by following pre-established plans created by the clinical lead to ensure access to services and resources in a respectful, trauma-informed, and culturally safe manner.

Reports to: Community Health Services Manager

Qualifications

High school completion required.
Familiarity with mental health, addiction services, and community resources.
Experience in social services, community health, harm reduction, or a related field.
Understanding of trauma-informed, harm reduction, and culturally safe practices.
Ability to de-escalate conflict in a non-violent manner.
Awareness of local “street culture.”
Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check clearance.

Skills

Experience supporting clients in a harm reduction, community, or clinical setting
Knowledge of overdose response, naloxone administration, and emergency protocols
Ability to provide client support during medication administration and basic first aid
Understanding of community resources (food, shelter, healthcare) and referral processes
Strong communication and de-escalation skills to support a safe, inclusive environment
Ability to monitor client flow and maintain safety within a service setting
Experience with harm reduction practices, including safer use education and drug checking
Strong teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment
Ability to complete documentation, data collection, and handovers accurately
Knowledge of infection control, cleaning, and safe disposal practices
Strong organizational skills, including inventory support and basic administrative tasks
