CGI is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineering Specialist to join our growing Software Engineering consulting practice within the Emerging Technologies team.
As a full-time member of CGI, you will become part of a collaborative team of architects, developers, and consultants delivering enterprise technology solutions for some of Canada's leading public and private sector organizations. While you may be assigned to one or more client engagements, you will remain a permanent member of CGI's Software Engineering practice, collaborating with teammates, contributing to reusable code assets, and continuously developing your technical and consulting expertise.
In this role, you will help clients design, build, modernize, and scale custom software applications. You will develop robust business logic, design intuitive APIs, and implement modern architectural patterns that improve software quality, user experience, and business agility.
Success in this role requires curiosity, adaptability, strong computer science fundamentals, and a passion for continuous learning. Rather than specializing strictly in a single technology stack, you will leverage sound engineering principles to deliver innovative, scalable, and secure applications across a variety of industries, languages, and client environments.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Software Engineering & Development
Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality, scalable enterprise applications and microservices.
Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following modern software design patterns and industry best practices.

Lead technical design sessions, perform peer code reviews, and advocate for coding standards and test-driven development (TDD).
Software Delivery & Automation
Utilize modern software delivery pipelines, leveraging CI/CD to automate testing, build processes, and deployments.
Write comprehensive automated tests (unit, integration, end-to-end) to ensure software reliability and prevent regressions.
Improve software quality and deployment reliability by championing shift-left testing and continuous integration practices.
Cloud Native Application Development
Build and support cloud-native applications utilizing containers, serverless functions, and distributed system architectures.
Develop resilient, scalable backend systems optimized for enterprise cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Troubleshoot complex production application issues, memory leaks, and performance bottlenecks across distributed environments.
Reliability, Security & Operations
Ensure application reliability through proper logging, monitoring, and observability telemetry integration.
Integrate application security best practices (e.g., OWASP top 10 mitigation, secure coding guidelines) throughout the software development lifecycle.
Support application incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous performance optimization.
Innovation & Emerging Technologies
Evaluate emerging development frameworks, AI coding assistants, and engineering practices that improve client outcomes.
Contribute to proof-of-concepts, reusable code accelerators, engineering assets, and innovation initiatives.
Support enterprise adoption of Artificial Intelligence, intelligent automation, and modern engineering capabilities where appropriate.
Consulting & Collaboration
Partner directly with client stakeholders to understand business challenges and translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
Collaborate with CGI architects, platform engineers, and consultants to deliver successful client outcomes.
Participate in architecture reviews, technical workshops, design sessions, and strategic planning activities.
Support proposals, technical estimates, proof-of-concepts, and solution development when required.
Mentor junior developers and contribute to knowledge sharing across CGI's Software Engineering practice.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Engineering Experience
Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting custom enterprise software applications within complex business environments.
Experience delivering backend, frontend, or full-stack software solutions.
