Full job description

We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Software Developer - Full Stack for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a premier full-stack engineering capacity, specializing in designing, developing, and optimizing end-to-end web applications, scalable data pipelines, and RESTful web services.

As a principal full-stack developer, you will bridge the gap between responsive user interfaces, complex backend services, and enterprise database architectures. Operating fully onsite in Toronto, you will lead full SDLC activities—translating technical specifications into performant code, building reusable UI components, designing database schemas, writing SQL scripts, and establishing continuous integration/deployment workflows. This position demands a seasoned software authority who can troubleshoot multi-tier applications, enforce security and accessibility baselines, and deliver reliable software solutions.

Contract Duration: 11-month contract (with potential for extension)

Advantages

Complex Data & Pipeline Engineering: Extract, transform, and load datasets while tuning complex Oracle and SQL Server database environments.

Stable Onsite Engagement: Secure a full-time, long-term contract embedded within a collaborative software engineering environment in Toronto.

Responsibilities
Design, code, unit test, debug, and document complex full-stack web applications and data integration pipelines.

Develop intuitive, responsive, and accessible user interfaces using JavaServer Faces (JSF), HTML/DHTML, XML/XSL, Bootstrap, and open-source frameworks.

Construct scalable RESTful and SOAP web services, designing clear API specifications and integrating front-end interfaces with backend API services.

Design and manage relational database components (Oracle, SQL Server), writing and optimizing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts.

Implement server-side business logic and data access layers using Spring, myBatis, and EJB/Servlet technologies across application servers (WebLogic, Tomcat).

Resolve and troubleshoot complex technical issues, system bottlenecks, and software bugs arising during deployment, conversion, or migration activities.

Participate in Agile/Scrum delivery cycles, sprint planning, code reviews, and technical design walkthrough sessions.

Ensure application code conforms to enterprise architectural guidelines, security principles, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0 / AODA).

Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, deployment instructions, system runbooks, and developer documentation.

Conduct root-cause analysis and provide post-implementation support to ensure operational stability for core business systems.

Qualifications
Core Requirements & Full-Stack Expertise
Core Java/J2EE Stack: Proven experience in full-stack web development using Java, J2EE, JavaServer Faces (JSF), HTML/DHTML, and XML/XSL.

Frameworks & UI Libraries: Extensive hands-on experience utilizing open-source frameworks including Spring, myBatis, Bootstrap, and jQuery.

API Development & Integration: Strong experience designing, constructing, and integrating RESTful APIs (Swagger) and SOAP web services with front-end platforms.

Database & SQL Mastery: Proven hands-on experience with relational database management systems (Oracle, SQL Server) and writing complex Oracle SQL scripts.

Architecture & SDLC: Solid understanding of n-tier web application architecture, design patterns, DevOps pipelines, and hands-on SDLC delivery within Agile/Scrum environments.

Preferred Assets
Public Sector Context: Experience with public sector application architectures, information security baselines, Threat Risk Assessments (TRA), or Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) is considered an asset.

Modern JavaScript & Tools: Exposure to modern JavaScript frameworks (such as Angular/AngularJS), Jasper reporting tools, or Azure DevOps tools.

Accessibility Compliance: Knowledge of digital accessibility regulations and standards, including AODA and WCAG guidelines.

Soft Skills & Professional Attributes
Analytical Problem Solving: Superior diagnostic and critical thinking skills to evaluate technical options and solve complex application defects.

Consultative Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to elicit requirements and collaborate effectively across technical teams.
