Job summary

The Clubhouse Program Coordinator – Psychosocial Rehabilitation is responsible for creating and leading a vibrant, recovery-oriented clubhouse where adults living with mental health challenges, acquired brain injury, and other psychosocial barriers experience belonging, purpose, meaningful relationships, and opportunities for personal growth.

Grounded in the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) and the International Clubhouse Model, the Coordinator creates an environment where members are welcomed as valued contributors rather than recipients of service. Through meaningful participation, shared responsibility, community involvement, and relationship building, members are supported to build confidence, independence, hope, and connection as they pursue their individual recovery journeys.

This position combines therapeutic programming, psychosocial rehabilitation, recreation leadership, community development, and operational management. Working alongside members in the daily life of the clubhouse, the Coordinator creates a culture where people feel welcomed, valued, and inspired to participate.

The coordinator is responsible not only for delivering programming but for assessing community needs, designing evidence-informed programs, evaluating outcomes, building partnerships, and continually evolving clubhouse services to meet the changing needs of members and the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Recovery-Oriented Clubhouse Leadership

● Foster a welcoming, inclusive and recovery-oriented Clubhouse where every member experience dignity, belonging and respect.

● Promote member choice, shared responsibility and meaningful participation in all aspects of clubhouse life.

● Encourage members to contribute their strengths, talents and lived experience to the daily operation and culture of the clubhouse.

● Create an emotionally and physically safe environment where diversity is celebrated and discrimination is actively challenged.

● Model recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and strengths-based practice in every interaction.

● Ensure clubhouse operations reflect organizational values, International Clubhouse Standards and evidence-informed practice.

2. Therapeutic Programming & Member Experience

● Conduct ongoing needs assessments with members and community partners to identify emerging interests and service gaps.

● Design, coordinate, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic, recreational, educational, vocational, wellness, creative and social programming for adults.

● Develop meaningful work opportunities within clubhouse operations that encourage members to contribute according to their interests, abilities and recovery goals.

● Ensure programming reflects member feedback, community needs and diverse abilities, cultures and interests.

● Encourage members to lead activities, develop new initiatives and actively shape clubhouse programming.

● Develop annual program plans, establish measurable objectives and evaluate outcomes to support continuous improvement.

● Create a dynamic clubhouse environment where members are engaged, connected and excited to participate.

3. Member Development & Community Engagement

● Build authentic therapeutic relationships that promote confidence, hope and personal growth.

● Support members in identifying strengths, developing life skills and pursuing vocational, educational and community participation goals.

● Encourage member leadership, self-determination and increasing independence through meaningful participation.

● Develop partnerships with community agencies, employers, educational institutions and volunteers that expand opportunities for members.

● Promote clubhouse services through outreach, presentations, community events and public education.

● Increase awareness of psychosocial rehabilitation and actively support membership growth.

4. Program Leadership & Organizational Excellence

● Supervise, mentor and support clubhouse staff, volunteers and practicum students.

● Coordinate daily clubhouse operations, staffing, scheduling and resource allocation.

● Develop annual work plans, monitor program performance and support continuous quality improvement.

● Monitor program budgets, maintain documentation and prepare reports required by the organization and funding partners.

● Ensure compliance with organizational policies, health and safety requirements, accreditation standards and applicable legislation.

● Maintain a welcoming, organized and well-functioning clubhouse environment.

● Participate in strategic planning and contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of clubhouse services.

● Performs other related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position.

Qualifications

Education

A Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Psychosocial Rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy, Community Rehabilitation, or a related discipline is preferred.

Applicants with degrees in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or other related disciplines will also be considered where they can demonstrate education and experience in psychosocial rehabilitation, recovery-oriented practice, and therapeutic program development for adults.

An equivalent combination of education, specialized training and experience may be considered.

Experience

● Designing, implementing and evaluating therapeutic, recreational or psychosocial rehabilitation programming for adults.

● Conducting needs assessments and developing evidence-informed programs.

● Building collaborative relationships with community organizations and referral partners.

● Supervising staff, volunteers or practicum students.

● Leading groups, facilitating community participation and promoting recovery-oriented practice.

● Program planning, evaluation, budgeting and continuous quality improvement.

● Knowledge of the International Clubhouse Model is considered a significant asset.
