The Black Health and Social Services (BHSS Hub) is an Afrocentric, culturally-affirming hub offering primary health care, social services and mental health and addictions support to Black, African and Caribbean (BAC) communities in Peel Region. Roots Community Services, LAMP Community Health Centre and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Peel Dufferin are partnering to offer this initiative which was being designed with the holistic health of the individual as the primary focus. This ensures that services are easily accessible and closer to home for Black, African and Caribbean (BAC) communities in Peel.
Job Summary
At the heart of our work is an interdisciplinary approach that delivers holistic, community-based care – with a strong focus on individuals who experience barriers to accessing health services. Our team is deeply committed to inclusivity and works within the social determinants of health framework, emphasizing prevention, health promotion, and client education.
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Health Services (BHSS HUB), the Manager, Allied Health Services will be responsible for supporting the day to day operations related to allied health service delivery, with a focus on chronic disease management and health promotion. This role will lead a team of allied professionals including but not limited to, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapy, Care Navigators, Chiropodists, Diabetes Nurse Educators, Dietitians and Clinical Students. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate of health equity with a focus on-- health promotion and preventative care, and will work with the integrated leadership team to deliver comprehensive, wrap-around care to clients living with, or at risk of chronic illnesses like Hypertension, HIV, Cancer, Diabetes and Dementia.
This position facilitates the co-development, implementation, and evaluation of chronic disease prevention protocols and best practice guidelines for all regulated allied health professionals within the Primary Care team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support program planning, evaluation, and reporting in collaboration with the integrated BHSSH leadership team.
- Provide day-to-day, leadership and oversight for staff within the Primary Care team, with a focus on relationship-building, and supervisory direction during daily activities.
- Assign allied clinical resources to meet the current and emerging needs of our communities across Peel
- Directly supervise allied health staff, including responsibility for performance management, coaching, and accountability to organizational standards.
- Support coordination and optimization of client care, ensuring alignment with trauma-informed, harm reduction, and anti-oppressive principles.
- Co-develop, implement, and evaluate clinical protocols and practice guidelines.
- Design and lead structured onboarding for new hires.
- Provide ongoing feedback and continuous learning for staff members to support development and performance.
- Support continuous improvement through the implementation, assessment and evaluation of quality improvements initiatives.
- Establish and maintain strategic and operational relationships with health system, research, academic and community partners across the broader health system in Peel, including Ontario Health Teams (OHT) and other partner networks.
- Prepare regular reports for funders/partners, and internal stakeholders as needed
- Contribute to developing policies and procedures that enhance client outcomes and staff effectiveness.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, train, and support various project teams, including research, practicum placements
- Ability to analyze service delivery trends, recommend improvements, implement changes, and evaluate effectiveness.
- Competence in the use and navigation of electronic health records, clinical documentation, and data analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in Health Sciences, Health Administration, Health Management, or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Regulated Health Professional designation is an asset.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressive leadership and management experience in a healthcare setting, preferably within primary care, community health, or an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, program evaluation, budget management, quality improvement, performance monitoring, reporting, and meeting funder and senior leadership accountability requirements.
- In-depth knowledge and applied experience in health equity, anti-oppression, and the social determinants of health.
- Extensive professional and leadership experience working in or with Black, African and Caribbean (BAC) communities and/or other underserved populations.
- Experience supporting clients who are uninsured, experiencing poverty, and/or living with complex mental health needs.
- Strong knowledge of applicable healthcare legislation and regulations, including the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
- Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary teams, build collaborative relationships, manage risk, resolve conflict, and engage effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated emotional intelligence.
- Strong project management, organizational, problem-solving, and evaluation skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of Peel Region, including community resources and issues affecting health equity and the social determinants of health.
- Familiarity with the Community Health Centre Model of Health and Wellbeing is an asset.
- Valid driver's licence is an asset.
