About Marmak
Marmak is a Canadian technology company with more than 40 years of experience working with municipalities, educational institutions, recreation organizations and professional sports facilities across North America.
Our software platforms are helping organizations modernize how they manage facilities, infrastructure and operations.
RFAM (Recreation Facility Asset Management) helps organizations manage assets, inspections, preventative maintenance, work orders, lifecycle planning and facility operations through an integrated digital platform.
SUB-ZERO is our rapidly growing ice operations platform, bringing data and technology into arenas and ice facilities. The platform helps facilities better understand and manage ice conditions, maintenance activities, resurfacing, operational performance and other critical aspects of ice operations.
Our technology is used by municipal organizations and major sports and recreation facilities across North America, including facilities associated with professional NHL and AHL organizations.
We are continuing to invest heavily in the future of our platforms, including mobile applications, connected devices and Bluetooth hardware, cloud technology, data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence and predictive operational tools.
As our products and customer base continue to grow, we are looking for a Software Systems Developer who can help us not only build great software, but also strengthen the technical foundation behind it.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a junior-to-intermediate developer who is interested in understanding how an entire software ecosystem fits together.
You will work across RFAM, SUB-ZERO and our supporting technologies to help improve the organization, consistency, documentation and maintainability of our software environment.
You will still develop software and contribute to new features, but an important part of your role will be helping us establish better standards across our products—from how code is structured and documented to how databases, APIs, mobile applications, cloud infrastructure and integrations work together.
As you grow in the role, we want you to develop a strong understanding of our overall technology stack and become an important technical resource within the organization.
What You'll Work On
- Develop, test and maintain features across our RFAM and SUB-ZERO software platforms.
- Review existing codebases and identify opportunities to simplify, refactor and improve code quality.
- Help establish consistent coding standards, naming conventions, project structures and development practices across our products.
- Identify duplicate or inconsistent functionality across applications and help develop standardized approaches and reusable components.
- Create and maintain clear technical documentation for applications, databases, APIs, integrations and infrastructure.
- Help build and maintain an organized technical inventory of our software ecosystem, including repositories, databases, APIs, cloud services, third-party integrations and dependencies.
- Develop clear architecture and data-flow documentation showing how our systems communicate with one another.
- Assist with database design, optimization and standardization.
- Support API development and integrations between our web applications, mobile applications, hardware and external systems.
- Contribute to the continued development of our iOS, Android and mobile technology strategy.
- Participate in projects involving AI, automation, analytics, connected devices and emerging technologies.
- Help improve source control, code review, versioning, testing and deployment processes.
- Review dependencies, legacy code and technical debt and help develop plans for modernization.
- Work closely with developers, project managers, UX/UI designers, systems analysts, sales and marketing professionals and company leadership.
- Translate user and business requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.
- Test and troubleshoot software to improve performance, reliability and compatibility.
- Help ensure knowledge about our systems is documented and shared rather than residing with individual team members.
- Research new technologies and recommend opportunities to improve our products and development processes.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who enjoys building software but also enjoys organizing and improving how software is built.
The ideal candidate is naturally curious and may look at an existing piece of code and ask not only "How can I fix this?"but also "Why do we do this differently in three applications, and how could we create a better standard?"
You should be comfortable learning an existing software environment, asking questions, documenting what you discover and gradually helping us make that environment cleaner and more scalable.
Qualifications & Skills
- 1–3 years of programming or software development experience.
- Strong understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Experience with Visual Studio and Microsoft .NET technologies.
- Familiarity with iOS and Android App development
- Understanding of APIs and modern application integrations.
- Familiarity with Git/source control and collaborative development practices.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand and work within existing codebases.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical team members.
- Willingness to learn new programming languages, frameworks and technologies.
Experience With Any of the Following Is an Asset
- DevExpress
- AWS cloud hosting and management
- PHP / open-source PHP frameworks
- REST APIs
- Mobile application development
- iOS / Swift
- Android development
- Bluetooth / BLE devices
- IoT or connected hardware
- AI APIs, machine learning or AI-assisted application development
- Reporting and business intelligence tools
- CI/CD and automated deployment
- Application security and cloud security practices
Why Join Marmak?
You will have the opportunity to work on technology that is being used in real operational environments—from municipal recreation facilities to some of North America's most recognizable professional sports organizations.
This position provides exposure to the full technology lifecycle—web applications, mobile apps, databases, cloud infrastructure, APIs, connected hardware, analytics and AI.
You will also have the opportunity to make a visible impact on how our technology organization evolves.
We're looking for someone who wants to grow beyond simply writing code and develop a broader understanding of software architecture, systems, documentation and technical operations while helping shape the next generation of RFAM and SUB-ZERO.
