Position Overview
The Automation Quote Specialist plays a key role in the sales and engineering process by transforming customer requirements into practical automation solutions.
This position is responsible for reviewing customer Requests for Quotations (RFQs), understanding the customer's manufacturing processes, production objectives, and technical requirements, and developing conceptual automation solutions that meet those needs.
Working closely with Sales Account Managers, Engineering, and Operations, the Automation Quote Specialist develops technical proposals, estimates project scope and costs, and helps position the company as the preferred automation partner.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Review and analyze customer RFQs, specifications, statements of work, and technical documentation.
- Engage with customers and Sales Account Managers to clarify requirements and fully understand project objectives.
- Identify technical risks associated with part variation, tolerance stack-ups, inspection requirements, and manufacturability during the quotation phase.
- Review customer drawings, GD&T requirements, and product specifications to assess automation feasibility and project risks.
- Develop conceptual automation solutions, system layouts, and equipment recommendations based on customer needs.
- Prepare detailed technical proposals, scopes of work, budgets, and quotations.
- Generate equipment cost estimates, project timelines, and supporting documentation.
- Present proposed solutions to customers and provide technical support throughout the sales cycle.
- Support customer meetings, site visits, and technical discussions as required.
- Ensure proposals align with company standards, capabilities, and profitability objectives.
- Monitor quotation activity and maintain accurate records within company systems.
- Support project handoff activities to engineering and project management teams upon order award.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3–7 years of experience in industrial automation, custom machine building, robotics, manufacturing engineering, applications engineering, or technical sales.
- Strong ability to review and interpret customer RFQs, specifications, engineering drawings, and technical requirements.
- Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerance schemes, datums, and inspection requirements.
- Experience evaluating part tolerances and manufacturing requirements to develop robust automation, tooling, fixturing, and assembly solutions.
- Ability to translate customer requirements into practical automation concepts and system designs.
- Experience preparing technical proposals, scopes of work, project budgets, and quotations for custom equipment projects.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, automation technologies, robotics, and production systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple quotation opportunities and project priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotic systems, material handling systems, assembly automation, vision systems, or custom machinery.
- Experience preparing project budgets and cost estimates.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar engineering software.
- Understanding of industrial controls and automation technologies.
