Radium North Inc. is a rapidly growing Indigenous-owned industrial and commercial contractor providing mechanical, electrical, fire protection, insulation, and maintenance services throughout Western Canada.
We are currently seeking an experienced HVAC Crew Lead / Journeyman (Journeyperson) HVAC Technician with a valid Refrigerant Ticket to join our growing Mechanical Division. This leadership role is based out of Calgary, Alberta, with travel required throughout Alberta to support commercial, industrial, institutional, and construction projects.
The successful candidate will be more than an HVAC technician they will be a field leader responsible for supervising crews, maintaining quality workmanship, planning work activities, assisting with estimating, reviewing project scopes, coordinating manpower requirements, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead and supervise HVAC crews on commercial and industrial projects.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to apprentices and technicians.
- Promote a positive safety culture while maintaining productivity and quality.
- Coordinate daily work activities and communicate project expectations to field personnel.
- Ensure all work meets engineered drawings, project specifications, company standards, and applicable codes.
- Conduct quality assurance inspections and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Project Planning & Estimating
- Review project work scopes, drawings, and specifications.
- Assist Project Managers with estimating labour requirements and manpower loading.
- Assist in developing Bills of Materials (BOM) and equipment requirements.
- Identify potential project risks and recommend practical solutions.
- Participate in pre-job planning meetings and project scheduling.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, subcontractors, and project logistics.
HVAC Installation & Service
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Install rooftop units, split systems, make-up air units, exhaust systems, boilers, and related mechanical equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and emergency service work.
- Diagnose system issues and recommend cost-effective repairs.
- Perform refrigerant recovery, leak detection, charging, and testing in accordance with industry regulations.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and mechanical drawings.
- Complete commissioning, testing, balancing support, and startup activities.
Safety & Quality
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with all company and client safety requirements.
- Complete FLHAs, hazard assessments, inspections, and required documentation.
- Ensure company vehicles, tools, and equipment are maintained in good working condition.
- Maintain accurate service reports, inspection records, and project documentation.
Qualifications
Required
- Journeyman/Journeyperson HVAC Technician Certification.
- Valid Refrigerant Handling Ticket.
- Minimum 5 years of commercial and/or industrial HVAC experience.
- Proven experience leading crews and coordinating field activities.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, refrigeration, boilers, ventilation systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driving abstract.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta and work occasional overtime when project schedules require.
Preferred
- Experience estimating mechanical projects.
- Experience reviewing work scopes and preparing labour forecasts.
- Knowledge of material take-offs and Bill of Material preparation.
- Experience with commercial construction and industrial maintenance.
- Welding and plumbing experience.
- Experience operating skid steers, telehandlers, boom lifts, or other construction equipment is considered an asset.
- First Aid, CSTS, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform, and other safety certifications are considered assets.
