We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Software Developer for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a premier engineering capacity within full-stack application development, cloud architectures, and database streams, specializing in modernizing multi-tiered web, microservices, and mobile-ready solutions.
As a principal developer, you will bridge the gap between complex business requirements, secure cloud deployment pipelines, and scalable database architectures. Operating fully onsite in Toronto, you will lead the end-to-end design and implementation of secure web applications, build DevSecOps pipelines in Microsoft Azure, optimize relational database systems, and enforce strict accessibility, privacy, and security standards across the software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain multi-tiered web, client/server, and mobile application solutions using J2EE, Java (Jakarta), MVC, JavaScript/jQuery, JSON, REST/SOAP APIs, and JPA/Hibernate.
Architect and implement Azure cloud services, including Azure API Management, Azure Container Apps, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure SQL Database, and Azure Entra ID.
Engineer end-to-end CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines using Git, GitHub, and Azure DevOps with integrated automated deployment, vulnerability scanning, and dependency checking.
Perform relational database administration, data modeling, T-SQL scripting, stored procedure development, and query performance tuning on MS SQL Server (2019 and later).
Design, build, and deploy ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory for hybrid on-premises to cloud data synchronization and enterprise analytics support.
Implement Zero-Trust security architectures, incorporating TLS, mTLS, RBAC/ABAC, SAML, and OAuth security tokens across microservices and web services.
Ensure all web applications and user interfaces comply fully with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards.
Create and update formal technical documentation, architecture artifacts (data models, deployment diagrams, component models), and system specifications.
Author unit tests and integration tests, assist with data validation, and support user acceptance testing (UAT) through active defect triage and resolution.
Perform root-cause troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and system tuning in production and pre-production environments.
Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge transfer to support team members and ensure long-term solution maintainability.
Qualifications
Core Technical & Architectural Requirements
Full-Stack & Application Development: 10+ years of experience in structured development, design, and implementation of multi-tiered web and mobile applications using J2EE, Java (Jakarta), MVC, JavaScript, REST/SOAP APIs, and microservices architectures.
Relational Database & Data Integration: 10+ years of hands-on experience with MS SQL Server (2019 or later), T-SQL, stored procedures, data modeling, ETL/ELT pipelines, and database performance tuning.
Azure Cloud Services: 3+ years of hands-on development experience with Azure Cloud technologies, including API Management, Azure Container Apps, AKS, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, and Azure Entra ID.
DevSecOps & CI/CD Pipelines: 3+ years of experience constructing automated CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines in Azure DevOps/GitHub featuring automated security scanning and dependency checks, alongside 5+ years of Git version control experience.
Security & Zero-Trust Architecture: 3+ years of experience building secure web services using TLS/mTLS, OAuth/SAML, RBAC/ABAC, and Zero-Trust principles.
Containers & Orchestration: Practical experience with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
Privacy, Governance & Public Sector Assets
Privacy & Security Context: Demonstrated experience navigating privacy and security requirements within healthcare or highly regulated enterprise environments (e.g., PHIPA/FIPPA compliance).
Accessibility Standards: Proven experience ensuring web applications comply with AODA standards.
Public Sector Context: 5+ years of experience working within federal, provincial, or broader public-sector environments, including familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks, gating processes, and Agile/Waterfall methodologies.
