This position follows a hybrid work model and requires attendance at our downtown Toronto office and/or the client office for a minimum of 2 days per week, subject to change based on business and client requirements.
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Azure Database Migration Engineer to lead enterprise-scale database modernization initiatives focused on migrating Oracle databases to PostgreSQL on Microsoft Azure. This role requires a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in database migration, Azure cloud services, ETL development using Python/PySpark, and cloud-native data architectures.
The successful candidate will design and execute migration strategies, build automation frameworks, collaborate with architects and stakeholders, and ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing database solutions aligned with Azure cloud adoption strategies.
Your future duties and responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end Oracle to PostgreSQL migration projects.
- Design and implement cloud-native migration solutions on Azure.
- Develop migration strategies, cutover plans, and post-migration optimization.
- Perform schema, data, and code migration using tools such as Ora2Pg, Azure DMS, and pgLoader.
- Build ETL/ELT pipelines and migration automation using Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Optimize PostgreSQL performance, implement HA/DR, and ensure security and compliance.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver successful outcomes.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
- 8+ years of database engineering experience.
- 5+ years of Oracle Database experience.
- 3+ years of Oracle to PostgreSQL migration experience.
- 3+ years of hands-on Microsoft Azure experience.
- Strong expertise in:
- Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL, PL/SQL
- Python, PySpark, ETL/ELT
- Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2
- Azure Key Vault, Azure DevOps, Azure Monitor
- Migration tools such as Ora2Pg, Azure DMS, pgLoader, Liquibase, and Flyway
- Strong understanding of database performance tuning, data validation, and migration automation.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage clients and document business and technical requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience delivering enterprise cloud modernization initiatives.
- Strong consulting, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.
- Knowledge of Azure Well-Architected Framework and cloud governance best practices.

The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $80,000–$130,000. This role is an existing vacancy.**
