Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Highway Sales and Dispatch Pro with experience in Long Haul Flatbed and Oversize Transport to join our team in Surrey BC. This role is focused on keeping our fleet rolling by building relationships with clients, brokers, carriers, shippers and forwarders so we can safely and profitably haul their cargo.
For the right candidate, we are open to REMOTE and HYBRID Applicants.
Flatdecks, stepdecks, lowbeds, and loads that don't fit in a box. We move regular, oversize and overweight freight across Canada and the U.S. — and we need a dispatch planner who can build the run, book the freight, and keep the fleet rolling. This is a seat where planning and dispatch live on one desk. You own the load from quote to delivery.
Work directly with clients to quote and ship their freight all over Canada and North America — from single flatdeck loads to multi-truck project moves.
Hunt down loads from freight forwarders, brokers, shippers, and carriers — plus intercompany freight from our in-house brokerage. Keep the decks loaded in both directions.
Manage and dispatch the highway fleet — company trucks and owner-operators. Build efficient runs, keep drivers moving, and keep customers in the loop.
Coordinate oversize and overweight permits when the load calls for it — routes, dimensions, pilot cars, and everything in between
Plan every run to comply with Hours of Service rules in both Canada and the USA. Legal, safe, and on time — in that order.
What You Bring
- Experience in dispatch, load planning, or freight operations — open-deck a strong asset
- Working knowledge of Canada/US lanes, border crossings, and HOS rules
- Sharp negotiator on the phone with brokers, shippers, and forwarders
- Organized under pressure — you can juggle trucks, permits, and customers at once
- Familiarity with oversize/overweight permitting is a big plus
What You Get
- Competitive pay that rewards performance
- A growing fleet and a backlog of real project freight
- In-house brokerage feeding you intercompany loads
- Direct access to ownership — decisions get made fast
- A crew that hauls the big stuff and takes pride in it
Core Responsibilities
Freight Sales & Development
- Source, quote, and book open deck, oversize, and heavy haul freight to keep the assigned fleet loaded in both directions.
- Work the Lantrax inside sales team and brokerage book daily to capture open deck freight that belongs on Posse equipment.
- Build and maintain a working network of 3PLs, brokers, other carriers, freight forwarders, and direct shippers for backhaul and lane balance.
- Cold call and prospect direct shippers in target verticals: steel and structural, modular and precast, machinery and equipment dealers, forestry, energy services, construction, and mining supply.
- Negotiate rates that hit or beat target margin. Push back on cheap freight; find the freight that pays.
- Quote accurately the first time — including permits, pilot cars, tarps, escorts, wait time, cross-border fees, and deadhead — so the load bills the way it was sold.
- Maintain and grow customer accounts: follow up, solve problems fast, and earn the next load.
- Track lane rates and market conditions across BC/AB, cross-Canada, Pacific Northwest, and cross-border markets, and adjust pricing accordingly.
- Contribute to RFP/RFQ responses and contract lane pricing.
Planning & Dispatch
- Plan and dispatch company drivers and owner-operators across the highway open deck fleet, building complete round trips rather than one-way loads.
- Match freight to the correct equipment: flat deck, step deck, double drop, lowbed/RGN, trombone, and multi-axle configurations with jeeps and boosters.
- Confirm load dimensions, weights, and centre of gravity before booking, and plan placement so the load is legal and balanced across steer, drive, and trailer axle groups.
- Verify axle group compliance and GVW against the jurisdictions being travelled, and specify axle spacing/configuration where needed.
- Obtain or coordinate oversize and overweight permits across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and US states as required, including routing, travel-time restrictions, curfews, pilot car and escort requirements, and bridge/structure clearances.
- Confirm securement plans meet NSC Standard 10 / CCMTA cargo securement requirements — tiedown counts, aggregate working load limit, edge protection, blocking and bracing, tarping.
- Prepare and transmit ACI and ACE e-manifests, coordinate with customs brokers on PARS/PAPS, and ensure drivers cross with complete and correct paperwork.
- Communicate clearly with drivers on appointment times, site requirements, load/unload procedures, and expectations, and stay ahead of delays.
- Manage exceptions in real time: breakdowns, weather and road closures, permit refusals, detention, reconsignments, and customer escalations.
- Keep the TMS current — loads, rates, status updates, PODs, and accessorials entered accurately and on time so billing goes out clean.
- Monitor hours of service, driver availability, and home time in planning decisions.
Relationships & Team
- Build trust with drivers and owner-operators. Treat their revenue like your own and be straight with them about what a load pays and what it takes.
- Support owner-operator retention by keeping units in consistent, good-paying freight with minimal downtime.
- Maintain professional, responsive relationships with customers, vendors, permit services, pilot car operators, and customs brokers.
- Participate in owner-operator recruitment conversations by being someone drivers want to work for.
Skills & Attributes
- Excellent oral and written business communication — clean, professional email and quoting, and the ability to hold a rate conversation without losing the account.
- Sales-driven and profit-driven. Comfortable prospecting, negotiating, and being told no.
- Creative problem solver who finds a way to make the freight work.
- Performs well under pressure and in a fast-moving environment with competing priorities.
- Highly organized, detail-accurate, and self-directed; follows through without being chased.
- Strong working knowledge of TMS platforms, load boards, Microsoft Office/Excel, and email.
- Willing to be reachable outside standard hours when a load is in motion.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing customer or carrier relationships in BC/AB open deck markets.
- Experience with project, modular, precast, heavy equipment or oversize industrial freight.
- Working knowledge of NSC compliance, hours of service, and CVSE requirements.
- Class 1 licence or prior driving experience (not required, but valued).
- Experience working alongside a freight brokerage.
Compensation Package
- Your Salary will be in line with your experience. We pay incentives and commissions on your profitable load booking and attainable KPI goals.
