About Havenwood Academy
Havenwood Academy was established in 2026 with the goal of providing an inclusive learning environment for Autistic and neurodivergent students. Our aim is to provide sensory-friendly, research-driven, and empathetic teaching practices that serve the diverse needs of our community.
Through individualized programming that integrates the academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of our students, we recognize each learner's unique strengths and challenges while helping them thrive at a pace that honours their individual needs. We understand that traditional educational settings are not always designed with Autistic learners in mind, so we have created learning environments and educational programming specifically designed to support their success.
The Opportunity
Havenwood Academy is seeking passionate, dedicated Ontario Certified Teachers to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year, beginning August 27, 2026.
We are currently hiring:
- Primary Teacher (Kindergarten–Grade 6)
- High School Teacher with Math and Science teachable qualifications

Teachers at Havenwood Academy provide individualized and small-group instruction while working closely with Behaviour Therapists, Clinical Supervisors, and school leadership. Teachers are responsible for planning and delivering instruction aligned with the Ontario Curriculum while Behaviour Therapists support the implementation of individualized behaviour programming and collect behavioural data. Together, our team creates a structured, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student can succeed.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Ontario Curriculum.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and student abilities.
- Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to support individualized learning profiles.
- Foster student engagement through evidence-informed and neurodiversity-affirming teaching practices.
- Assess student learning and provide meaningful feedback to support academic growth.
- Prepare report cards, learning updates, and educational documentation in accordance with school expectations.
Classroom Leadership
- Create a structured, predictable, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Establish positive classroom routines that support student success.
- Promote communication, independence, problem-solving, and social development.
- Collaborate with Behaviour Therapists who support students with individualized behaviour programming during classroom activities.
- Support students using visual supports, structured teaching strategies, and sensory accommodations.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Behaviour Therapists, Clinical Supervisors, school leadership, and families.
- Participate in student planning meetings and interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Contribute to the development and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and educational goals.
- Maintain open and professional communication with parents and caregivers.
Student Well-Being
- Foster positive relationships with students built on trust, respect, and consistency.
- Support emotional regulation using proactive and responsive classroom strategies.
- Follow school safety procedures and participate in behavioural safety training.
- Promote a positive school culture that celebrates student strengths and individual success.
Qualifications
Required
- Ontario College of Teachers certification (or eligibility for certification).
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
- Experience working with Autistic or neurodivergent children or youth is preferred.
- Strong classroom management and differentiated instruction skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Screening.
Preferred
- Experience teaching in specialized education or inclusive classroom settings.
- Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and neurodiversity-affirming practices.
- Experience adapting curriculum for diverse learners.
- Familiarity with visual supports, structured teaching, and sensory-friendly classroom strategies.
- Additional Qualifications (AQs) in Special Education are considered an asset.
Position Details
Location: 222 Edward Street, Aurora, ON
Start Date: August 27, 2026
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5+ hours per week
Compensation
Primary Teacher
- $25.00–$35.00 per hour, based on education and experience.
High School Teacher (Math & Science)
- $30.00–$40.00 per hour, based on education and experience.
