This course examines ethical issues relating to artificial intelligence (AI), such as algorithmic bias, explainability and accountability in AI decision-making, trust in AI systems, relationships between humans and AI, the effects of AI on human labour, and the alignment between AI and human values.

The following position for a Sessional Lecturer is available in the Department of Philosophy for the Fall 2026 academic session. This is a posting in accordance with the Collective Agreement between The Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 Unit 3. Please note that the position below is tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolments. Qualifications:
PhD in-hand, preferably in philosophy.
Prior experience as a course instructor, preferably in Philosophy at U of T.
Advanced prior knowledge of the subject matter of the course and topic-related teaching experience.
Related research and a record of research achievement is considered an asset to this position.
Duties and responsibilities: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
Appointment Dates: September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026
Note: All positions involve completion of any course grading not already finished by December, 2026.
