New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster the hopes and dreams of people and their communities.

Shift Staffed Homes (SSH) is one of the many services within Adult Services at New Directions; providing person-centered support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities who may experience complex health issues. SSH strives to promote a sense of belonging and provide opportunities to engage in a meaningful life. This is achieved by creating a home environment that welcomes the participation of adults, supporting their pursuits, interests, goals, and helping maintain and strengthen the bond between the adults and their significant others. We provide an environment that is non-judgmental, safe and caring. Shift Staffed Homes operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Position details are as follows:

Grouping: PINK

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Working as part of a team providing care, support and guidance to individuals in their homes and in the community
Administering medication,
Providing transportation, and
Performing household chores
New Directions is dedicated to the ongoing learning and development of our employees. You will be expected to engage in the orientation and training opportunities provided to you on your employment journey

Qualifications:

Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., Disability and Community Support, Community Support Worker, Addictions Counselling, or Health Care Aide) is considered an asset.
Previous experience working with individuals that have developmental disabilities, mental health issues, anxiety, self-injurious behavior/suicidal ideation, FASD, Autism, behavioral challenges and/or emotional difficulties.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Access to a vehicle would be considered an asset.
Comfortable assisting with personal hygiene routines and activities of daily living.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge, awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultures and traditions.
Current First Aid/CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training is considered an asset.
Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) is considered an asset.
Understanding of people who are marginalized.

The salary range for this full-time permanent 80-hour bi-weekly position is $17.3239 to $23.3888 per hour (equivalent to $36,033.71 to $48,648.70), dependent upon education and/or experience.

Anticipated start date for this position is August 16, 2026.

This position is a part of the UFCW Local 832 Union Collective Agreement

The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child/Adult Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact checks; and must supply a current Driver's Safety Rating.

Operating a vehicle is an essential duty of this role. Candidates must hold a valid, active driver's license in good standing to be eligible for hire. Providing a copy of your license and/or your license number at this stage is voluntary.
