Position Summary

The Dental Assisting Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the strategic coordination, curriculum delivery, and overall success of the Dental Assisting Distance (DAD) and Dental Radiography Continuing Education programs. This pivotal role combines program leadership with active teaching expectations—instructing theory online and leading on-campus practical blocks.

Additionally, the Program Coordinator directly supervises the Clinic Coordinator, collaborating closely with them to ensure seamless on-campus clinic operations, IPAC compliance, and student practicum placements. The coordinator ensures full alignment with regulatory body requirements and prepares the faculty and program for CDAC accreditation.

Job Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Personnel Supervision

Supervise and manage the Clinic Coordinator, working in close alignment to ensure inventory, clinical logistics, and health and safety requirements are met.
Hire, train, mentor, and support new program instructors, facilitating dental team development sessions.
Maintain and audit student files for regulatory compliance and monitor student grades and attendance to ensure overall student success.
Prepare the dental assisting program, curriculum, and faculty team for CDAC accreditation.

Teaching & Instructional Delivery

Deliver engaging online and in-person instruction aligned with program outcomes, teaching theory classes online via Zoom/virtual learning environments as required.
Plan, teach, and evaluate clinical, lab, and radiography skills during scheduled on-campus practical cohorts and intensive full-time campus weeks.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, techniques, and delivery methods to accommodate individual adult learning styles in both theoretical and clinical settings.
Assess and grade assignments, tests, and exams, recording data accurately using internal systems (Nova/Moodle).
Provide extra clinical sessions on campus for students requiring additional hands-on practice, mentorship, and support.

Curriculum & Practicum Management

Design, update, and deliver curriculum that aligns strictly with industry, Private Career Colleges Act (PCCA), and regulatory standards.
Schedule, organize, and facilitate the Dental Assisting Distance and Dental Radiography continuing education courses.
Host student orientation, onboarding, and information sessions to guide students through their academic journey.
Oversee the student practicum process in partnership with the Clinic Coordinator; visit host dental offices in the Ottawa area to support students, evaluate learning, and cultivate strong institutional relationships.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

Certification: Certified Level II Dental Assistant with a valid NDAEB certificate.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of practical work experience within a dental clinical setting.
Memberships & Compliance: Current membership with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association (ODAA).
Clearances & Health: Vulnerable Sector Police Check, up-to-date Immunization records, and completion of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) modules.
Safety: Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Core Skills: Superior communication, public speaking, and organizational skills. Proven comfort presenting to groups and leading virtual/hybrid classrooms.
References: 2 professional letters of reference.

Preferred Assets

Previous experience in an academic teaching, adult mentoring, or clinical precepting role.
Demonstrated leadership skills including direct supervision of administrative or clinical staff, motivation, and team facilitation.
