THE CHALLENGE
The Process Quality Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that every TURBINE-X product is built right the first time. Working directly on the shop floor, this position drives process quality throughout manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing by developing robust quality controls, preventing defects before they occur, and leading the resolution of complex quality issues.
This is a highly visible, hands-on engineering role that partners with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, Testing, and Project Management to improve manufacturing performance through disciplined process control, risk management, and continuous improvement. The Process Quality Engineer champions quality at every stage of production while ensuring compliance with engineering requirements, customer expectations, regulatory standards, and our ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Process Quality Planning & Manufacturing Readiness
- Develop and maintain manufacturing quality plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), inspection checklists, quality gates, acceptance criteria, and process controls.
- Participate in design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, and production planning activities to ensure successful execution before production begins.
- Translate engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and lessons learned into practical shop-floor quality controls.
- Support quality planning for first-of-a-kind (FOAK) builds, new product introductions, and production ramp-up activities.
- Identify critical quality characteristics and implement preventive controls to reduce manufacturing risk.
Shop Floor Quality Leadership
- Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor, providing technical quality guidance while supporting production teams.
- Verify compliance with engineering drawings, BOMs, work instructions, specifications, and workmanship standards.
- Monitor manufacturing quality gates and ensure required inspections, testing, documentation, and approvals are completed before work progresses.
- Exercise stop-work or product-hold authority when quality requirements are not met or product integrity is at risk.
- Support integration testing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), final inspections, and product release activities.
Nonconformance & Corrective Action Management
- Lead manufacturing nonconformance investigations from containment through final closure.
- Facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) activities and coordinate technical dispositions with Engineering and Production.
- Conduct structured root cause investigations using methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, Pareto Analysis, and Fault Tree Analysis.
- Develop and monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), ensuring long-term effectiveness.
- Deploy lessons learned across products, projects, suppliers, documentation, and manufacturing processes.
Process Improvement & Risk Management
- Lead Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), risk assessments, and Control Plan development.
- Identify recurring manufacturing issues and implement preventive process improvements.
- Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, variation, recurring defects, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and process capability initiatives where appropriate.
- Drive initiatives focused on reducing defects, rework, Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), and improving Right First Time performance.
Engineering Changes, Audits & Documentation
- Support First Article Inspections, engineering change implementation, and manufacturing configuration control.
- Ensure quality documentation remains accurate, traceable, and aligned with current manufacturing practices.
- Support internal, customer, and certification audits while maintaining compliance with ISO 9001.
- Develop quality performance metrics and communicate trends, risks, and improvement opportunities to leadership.
- Coach production personnel on quality standards, defect prevention, and disciplined problem-solving methodologies.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Quality, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum five years of experience in manufacturing quality engineering, process quality, industrial assembly, fabrication, or a similar environment.
- Proven experience managing NCRs, root cause investigations, CAPA programs, and manufacturing quality systems.
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and risk-based quality management.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience supporting complex mechanical, structural, electrical, piping, or rotating equipment manufacturing.
- Excellent analytical, communication, technical writing, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS).
Education:
- ISO 9001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification.
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent quality certification.
- Experience with rotating equipment, power generation systems, modular equipment, or engineered-to-order manufacturing.
- Knowledge of PFMEA, Control Plans, First Article Inspection, Measurement System Analysis, SPC, and supplier quality processes.
- Experience supporting FAT, production scale-up, new product introduction, and customer acceptance testing.
PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
- Follow all X-Group Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Regular presence within manufacturing facilities requiring appropriate PPE, including steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other required protective equipment.
- Ability to work safely in an active industrial manufacturing environment while supporting shop-floor operations.
